Hughie's

Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the food was served and the flavor was amazing. The filet mignon was incredibly tender and delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try the Shaking Beef specialty. The service was great, and the beer was good too.

Hughie's is an unexpected little gem on the north side of Houston. I drove an hour from Richmond to try this place out and they did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprised by their selection of food. While the menu is not overly extensive, it is also not complicated. They offer several variations of their dishes, which was actually really refreshing. I could get shaking beef as a vermicelli bowl, steamed rice, fried rice or as a kale salad. I thought that was rather unique. We opted for the fried rice and it was a great choice. The meat was tender and medium rare. We also enjoyed the egg rolls and calamari for appetizers. For dessert we had the Vietnamese Coffee Tiramisu, which was good but a little on the dry side. Their Vietnamese Coffee and Thai Tea were nice drinks as well. They also have pickle ball courts for the kids and adults, and a nice patio with games. We will certainly be back and enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the service was top notch. We were well taken care of and never felt rushed.

Hughie’s is a great mix between solid Vietnamese food with a tavern/pub feel. They have lots of drinks on tap and their to go food is quick and perfect for filing any cravings.

Finally got around to trying what I call their NEW location simply because i always went to the one on 18th Street I have to say it was really nice very family friendly . We got there at about 430pm we had plenty of parking but 530 it was full , they do have plenty of space inside plus the patio . Weather was nice and people were getting out there ( I wish I would have known it was pet friendly, but there's next time ) We shared a Chk Banh Mi and Pork / Shrimp spring rolls and Calamari The Banh was delicious I recommend adding the egg but that just us it was fine by itself ( Loved the fries I know they're just fries but we all know that's not always the case ) The Rolls came out SUUUUPER fast ( 3/4 minutes from the time we ordered I'm not complaining unless they were sitting ) which I'm thinking they were pre-made and I was expecting a tough rice paper ( but Nooo they were great very fresh , so I'm not sure how they made it so fast 🤔 ) Then we get to the Calamari which was fine a little chewy not what I'm really accustomed to but good I do wish they had a type of cream sauce to dip may I suggest mayo & saracha just something simple ( DON'T get me wrong I love the .. Hmm ? best i can describe it is liqiud lemon & pepper sauce which is literally what in it) We asked for extra of it. What i didn't care for was the price point and serving size of the Calamari that was not worth it to me , in the pictures I included what I'm used to ( picture on top and what was served picture on bottom ) BIGG difference , but different restaurants so to each thier own . Service was top notch , we never needed anything and someone constantly came around to check on us. We did do wine but then went over to a beer , unfortunately the person didn't really have a full grasp of the different ones they had . He did state " These are the one we have today " ( so I'm not sure if they change , I'm not really a beer person ) in the end I asked if we could try a sample and he was nice enough to bring 4 different ones diffently a plus All in all it was great we'll be back

For our first time the food was great, the crispy dumplings were delicious and so were the spring rolls. We ordered Banh-Mi’s, which were also good. The food came at a timely manner, except our dessert. Besides the food being good I was not a fan of the service. Our waitress must have been having a bad day because it seemed like she didn’t want to talk to us. She was not friendly and made the table feel like we were supposed to already know everything from the menu, despite it being our first time. Towards the end we ordered a round of drinks and a tiramisu that never came. When we asked for it, she had made it seem like we hadn’t ordered it yet. Funny because they carry around the device to your table while they take your order. Anyway, don’t think i’ll be recommending this place to anyone else.
