I like to think I was guided to Dr. Hovden at just the right time. I needed every single one of my teeth restored and am so glad I chose him. I have spent many, many hours at his office and my teeth look magnificent. It's amazing what a confidence boost it is to look at your smile and see all the teeth even and perfect. I did not go for cosmetic reasons, but now I have healthy teeth that also look great. Dr. Hovden really knows what he is doing and his staff are so nice and kind. It's a huge ordeal sitting in the chair for five and six hours for many days, but he made it as easy as possible. I went to him originally for this huge process but now he is my dentist for life. I highly, highly recommend Dr. Hovden for ALL of your dental work.

The office is well-organized, the staff personable and friendly, the dental assistants excellent. As a patient I have felt truly respected. In the many years I have obtained dental care at this office, I have not once been kept waiting for a scheduled appointment. Parking is readily available and free. I travel a considerable distance to see Dr. Hovden and it is well worth the time and effort for the consistent outstanding care and service provided.

Dr. Hovden’s office is so relaxing that I think I fell asleep while my teeth were being cleaned! Dr. Hovden’s has the most modern equipment that is both quiet and gentle on your teeth and gums. The dental technicians did a great job checking for anything that could be going wrong in my mouth. They made suggestions for preventing problems and took the time to answer my questions. And, Dr. Hovden was able to give me an 8:00 AM appointment so that I didn’t need to miss too much work.

I came in expecting to spend $20-30k on veneers. Dr. Hovden talked me out of it. That alone tells you everything about his integrity. He spent over an hour with me on the first visit - cancer screening, TMJ evaluation, muscle palpation, 20+ photos, pocket measurements, bite analysis. This wasn't a sales consultation; it was an actual diagnostic exam. His assessment: my teeth are healthy, and with orthodontics + whitening I could get 90% of the result I wanted without touching my enamel. He showed me before/after photos of a patient who did veneers vs one who just whitened, and asked "would there really have been that much difference?" He explained the lifetime cost of veneers ($120k+ over 40 years with replacements) and said his philosophy is "do the least amount of dentistry possible to keep you healthy." Beyond the big picture advice, he taught me things no dentist ever has - the correct angle to brush to prevent calculus buildup, why most mouthwashes are acidic and counterproductive, the RDA value of toothpastes, and the connection between missing bicuspids and airway issues. He's been doing this for 40+ years, did his parents' veneers (lasted 20+ years), and only replaced 2 veneer cases in his entire career. He refers to a top airway-focused orthodontist and clearly cares more about long-term outcomes than billing. If you want a dentist who will be honest with you even when it costs him money, this is the guy.
