Michaan's Auctions

I began consigning with Michaan’s in 2023 after my parents passed away. Unfortunately, my experience has been nothing short of awful. Communication was poor and unprofessional. My primary contact, Allyson, ignored my emails for months, and when she did respond, her replies were slow and dismissive. I consigned a large collection of Chinese scrolls, including a family piece valued at up to $5,000. When it didn’t sell, I retrieved it months later and found it severely torn. Allyson claimed the scroll “deteriorated while in storage,” despite the fact that my family had kept it for decades without any damage. The damage was clearly due to mishandling. I received no explanation of how the item had been stored, and my inquiries were ignored. This is especially troubling given that Michaan's contract explicitly states consigned property is insured against all risks. I have fully documented all of this. I was also incorrectly charged a 20% commission on multiple items instead of the agreed 15%, which was only corrected after I raised the issue. Overall, Michaan’s mishandled my property, failed to take accountability, and consistently ignored basic communication. I cannot recommend Michaan’s based on my experience.

I would seriously consider other options for selling your treasures. I consigned a rare piece that they estimated to be worth $1500+. They ended up selling it for $125. No explanation, apology, or any kind of consideration given afterwards. Either they don't know the value of what you give them or they don't have the clientele to get you anywhere close to their own estimated value. Avoid.

Once a month Michaans holds its wonderful two day auction. It's held the first Tuesday and Wednesday after the first Sunday of the month. Schedule is on their website. You can buy bargains galore here, from jewellery to vintage clothes. Anything but Real Estate or livestock! The auction is fast paced,travelling across the warehouse starting at 9 AM and finishing about 5 PM. Bring a lunch, eat at the food truck that shows up about noon, or eat at one of the great restaurants on Monarch street while enjoying a fantastic view of San Francisco. It's a family friendly atmosphere. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly.

I had an excellent experience with Michaan's. We sold around 100 items. We got good reporting and Tammie was very helpful.

My ongoing experience with Michaan's Auctions has been excellent. The professionalism of Elise, Jill and Tammie, and the attention to detail is first rate.
