Pho Q Long ( BYOB🍺)

Waitstaff on strike? We visited this restaurant on a Friday for lunch, but there's zero service. The hostess just yelled across the dining hall telling us to sit anywhere when we first arrived. After dropping off the menus at our table and asking us what to drink, she went behind the picket line. Although there were 4 employees (including the manager/cashier) standing around, no one proactively come to our table to take an order. We ended up manually fetching a waiter with a mobile POS to take our order, but he also went behind the picket line afterwards. We ordered two Vermicelli bowls with grilled beef and egg rolls for $33, which is about average in Houston. The grilled beef was lean and thick, but chewy and lacked of flavor. The egg rolls were super dry with stale filling. The dressing for the vermicelli bowl was not sweet, tangy, and/or savory, but bland and under seasoned. The rice vermicelli was also mixed with some kind of deep-frying oil instead of neutral or scallion oil. The restaurant layout was spacious, and there was plenty of parking outside. While the '80s soft rock background music added a nostalgic touch, it was a bit too loud. Overall, the meal was disappointing because the vermicelli bowls lacked the authentic flavor found at other Vietnamese spots in Houston.

Pros: decent pho, good prices Cons: terrible Bahn mi Not gonna lie, that was one of the worst Bahn mi I've ever eaten. The meat was rubbery, and it was filled with this low quality sweet chili sauce that was way too sweet. The flavor was poor. The milk tea is ok, the pho is ok, it's just ok. They used to have really good food. What happened?? 😭

This was my first time visiting Pho Q Long, and overall it was a good experience. The food was flavorful and well prepared, especially the pho, which had a rich broth and generous portions. You can tell care goes into the cooking, and the menu offers a nice variety of options. That said, the service was a bit slow, particularly considering it wasn’t extremely busy at the time. While the staff was polite and helpful, there was some waiting before our order was taken and before the food arrived. Improving the pacing of service would really elevate the overall experience. Even with the slower service, the quality of the food made the visit worthwhile. I’d definitely return and give it another try, especially knowing what to expect next time.

My experience at Pho Q Long was average overall. The food was okay, but it didn't really stand out from other pho restaurants I've tried. Unfortunately, the food was only warm when I got it and had cooled to room temperature within about ten minutes of eating, which took away from the experience. I also had a disappointing interaction during pickup. I wanted to add an item to my order when I arrived, but the staff wasn't willing to stop and speak with me. When I said I was there to pick up my order, I was simply directed to the bag on the table without much interaction. The food was edible and the order was correct, but between the temperature of the food and the customer service, it was a pretty average experience.
