Pho Thanh Long

I’m very surprised this place has such high rating. I’ve been here about 3 or 4 times when there was nothing else nearby that’s open. Last night will be our last. In the past, I noticed that they don’t put much meat and their meat seems old and chewy. We gave them a try a few more times. My husband and I ordered the brisket with fatty flank beef. My soups barely had any meat but had sooo much of this so called fat but it wasn’t even fat. It was chewy like you were chewing on rubber. I showed our waiter and he went to the back to ask whoever but if I wanted more meat, they would charge us more. I said, I barely even got any meat and had so much of this rubbery stuff. My husband ordered the same thing and he got one strip of this rubbery thing while I got almost 10 pieces. It’s not even eatable coz it’s so chewy. There are many other and way better Vietnamese restaurants in Houston. This one is not one of them, unfortunately.

I can't believe it's been about 7 years since I have been here and with that I don't even remember what I typed but forward 7 years later and what I can say is the service here was top notch for a Vietnamese let alone Asian restaurant if you know what I mean. The main thing that grabbed me was they actually let you finish your appetizer before sending out the food or whatever you ordered and in this case which was the Pho. After finishing our crispy tofu within a minute or two the soup came out with steam running upside the bowls. My friend who has eaten Vietnamese food for most of his life enjoyed the Pho so that this is the first time I ever remember him commenting on anything Vietnamese. Your restaurant pretty much is cleaned and well staffed for this 18th today of April Saturday 2026. The menu is still extensive from what I remember from last time which is a good thing the only thing I didn't like was I took off the banh xao :( I would say parking is ample considering it's a corner cap sharing the strip with other businesses. It's right in front of the Home Depot if you need a landmark.

I’ve ordered from here twice now, and both experiences have exceeded my expectations. I ordered the wonton soup (pictured). It looks like it was packaged with care, and you can truly taste that in every bite. I’ve officially found a new favorite spot.

I like to frequent here out of convenience and it has good service when dining in. I don’t know if this was just a fluke or if times are hard right now, my broth tasted different. I like a clear broth but there was not a drop of fat in my pho. I bought two of them, and put one in the fridge and not even a sheen of fat was there. The broth didn’t have the usual texture and was a bit watery. The meatballs, which cost extra, used to be bigger. Cutting up one meatball into pieces and charging 4 bucks to add it on is just rude. The meat was also quite dry. On top of that, I unfortunately found a light brown close to blonde colored hair in my noodles. Was super disappointed.

For Vietnamese food (and my in-laws are Vietnamese so I can talk about it with some level of intelligence), it is decent and they offer more than just pho and bun (vermicelli bowls). The key to this place is that it has been open a LONG TIME and has been extremely consistent. That is why it gets 4 stars. And they have the best Vietnamese egg rolls (the ones you get which are rough after they are fried and come with the lettuce and clear vinegar sauce (forgot how to spell it in Vietnamese). So, hope this helps. I don't suggest their pho, but all other things are rather decent.
