Because this will be a long review, and I want to start with a conclusion: I understand that legal cases can take time and that negotiations with medical providers can be complex. However, after more than four years and with the settlement funds already received over a year ago, it should not require repeated unanswered calls just to obtain a basic update. I hope the firm improves its communication and case management so that future clients do not experience similar delays. Here are some more details: I was involved in an auto collision on November 30, 2021, and retained this firm to handle my case. It has now been more than four years since the case began, and more than a year since the settlement check was reportedly sent to Shinlaw Group. As of today, I have still not received my portion of the settlement, nor have I been able to obtain a clear update despite repeated attempts to contact the office. During the entire duration of the case, I only spoke directly with Jonathan twice: once when I initially retained the firm, and a second time when I considered closing the case because I did not want it to proceed to litigation. At that time, he convinced me to continue with the process. Over the four years, communication was consistently challenging. The firm appeared to have significant staff turnover, which resulted in me having to repeat the same information to multiple staff members throughout the case. Updates were rarely provided proactively. I typically checked in about once a quarter—eventually less frequently as the process dragged on—but my calls were rarely returned. From the beginning, my primary request was that the case be resolved with the insurance company before the two-year mark so that litigation could be avoided. Unfortunately, the case still proceeded to litigation after that period (very disappointing and difficult for me as I was dealing with layoff situation at that time and didn’t the energy and time to deal with a litigation). The most concerning issue has been the delay following the settlement. I was informed that the settlement check had been received in January 2025, but it has still not been disbursed. I was told the firm was attempting to negotiate reductions with medical providers, which I understand is part of the normal process. Four months later, in May 2025, I called for an update and was told that one provider was unwilling to reduce their bill and another had not responded. When I asked what the next step would be if negotiations remained unsuccessful, I was told the only option was to continue waiting. I was also informed that if the medical bills cannot be negotiated down further and I didn’t want to wait, I would need to cover the difference from my portion of the settlement. I waited another ten months after that update. Since then, I have attempted to follow up twice—once in November and again in January—but I was unable to reach the negotiator and did not receive a return call. At this point, the primary issue has been the lack of communication and transparency. After more than four years, and with the settlement already received for over a year, it should not be this difficult for a client to receive updates or understand the cause of ongoing delays. It was also discouraging to hear that the settlement could be released quickly only if I accepted covering the remaining medical costs myself. Of course I understand this is how things work, but it’s the lack of effort and their “waiting game strategy” that only costs the client’s time and money. I want other potential clients to know this fully before deciding to retain them for their case.
