Somisomi

I’ve been wanting to try SomiSomi for a couple of years, so I was excited to finally stop by. One thing to note is that this isn’t the type of place where you’re greeted when you walk in. Orders are placed through a kiosk, and you simply pick up your order when it’s ready. I ordered the regular upside-down ah-boong ($6.95) with cookies ‘n cream and ube ice cream. I couldn’t remember if I had ever tried black sesame before, so I chose it as my filling. It’s difficult to describe the flavor, but it paired surprisingly well with the ice cream and added a unique touch to the dessert. When placing your order, you can select a topping. I chose a macaron and Oreo crumbs. One helpful tip: the toppings that are added at pickup are complimentary, but the kiosk doesn’t give you the option to select them during the ordering process. The shop has a fun atmosphere that reminds me of a skate park, with plenty of seating and standing room for customers. Overall, I enjoyed everything I ordered and found the price to be reasonable. I would definitely return when I’m in the area.

Popular flavors like ube, matcha, milk, and cookies and cream give you plenty of ways to customize your order. The mix of warm and cold in every bite is what makes it stand out. The atmosphere is modern, bright, and often busy, especially in the evenings or weekends. It has a grab-and-go feel, but people still tend to hang around for photos because the presentation is very Instagram-friendly. Service is usually quick, even when there is a line. It is more about the experience and creativity than anything overly complex or heavy. That is part of its charm. Overall, Somi Somi Carrollton is a consistent go-to when you want something sweet, fun, and a little different from traditional ice cream shops.

Somisomi never disappoints! Their matcha soft serve is absolutely wonderful: smooth, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet. And the taiyaki fish cones? A total vibe. Such a fun and delicious combo. Definitely a must-try if you haven't been!

It’s such a comforting and satisfying treat. The staff are friendly, and the space is fun with plenty of options for everyone. They stay open late and can get busy, but the line moves quickly—an ideal spot to hang out late at night.
