The 1994 Salon and Spa

I’ve been going to Ivy since before she opened the 1994, when she opened this salon, I followed her without hesitation. She has always given me 10/10 service, and I truly can’t imagine trusting anyone else with my hair. She genuinely cares about keeping my hair healthy, is so thoughtful with every cut, and always takes the time to listen to what I’m looking for while offering great advice. Ivy and her team have created such a welcoming space, and the quality of care no matter the service is unmatched. I always leave loving my hair, and I recommend her to anyone looking for a stylist who is incredibly talented, kind, and truly cares about her clients.

I rarely ever write reviews especially negative ones, but my interaction with one of the hairstylists here was so jarring it should be shared. I had been seeing Ivy for curly cuts and had a positive experience with her previously. Although her demeanor is a bit standoffish, she was professional and I was satisfied with my haircuts so I continued seeing her and didn’t mind. She advised me against going blonde, but I chose to color my hair elsewhere. I continued seeing her for haircuts multiple times after I went blonde without issue, so I was surprised when my most recent appointment was suddenly canceled the day before and I was told she no longer thought we were aligned because we disagreed on what was best for my hair and that my colorist should cut it instead. I completely respect a stylist’s right to decline a service, but I found the way this was handled rude and uncomfortable. The least she could have done was give me more advance notice rather than cancel on an ongoing client the day before. Her tone came across as self-important and patronizing, as if she disliked that I didn’t take her opinion as the final word. I personally prefer a stylist who can give professional recommendations while still respecting that the final decisions about my hair are mine. If you are someone who values that autonomy over your own hair I would not recommend her. It’s sad when stylists especially for underserved demographics, like those with curly hair, operate based on ego rather than genuine care for their clientele.

I've been on the hunt for a good curly/wavy hairstylist and Drea is awesome! It is evident how knowledgeable and thoughtful she is from the get go, taking her time to make sure I was okay with what she was doing and explaining the products, tools and techniques she was using throughout the entire cut. As someone who has a complicated relationship with my hair and have had not so lovely haircut experiences (resulting in tears often), Drea was super caring and I've never been happier with my hair! Will definitely be going back

I gotta hype up Olivia. She's young and incredibly skilled with curly hair. I've lived in multiple states and she is the first POC that not only knows what she's doing, but has a vision, the confidence, and knows how to make your curls POP! I recommend her for every curly haired girl that's out there and is struggling to find someone that knows how to manage curls. I'll definitely be going back and I want Olivia to know how important she is to the hair cosmetic industry!
