Years ago I used to buy bread from this place, and now they seem to have locations all over the city, so I figured it had to still be good. Had to stop by. We went in the afternoon and they were fully stocked with pastries. We tried the blueberry financier, croissant, chai latte, and matcha. Unfortunately, nothing tasted particularly fresh. The croissant especially missed the mark for me—none of the flaky, buttery layers I expect from a good French-style croissant. The chai was watery, and the matcha tasted mostly like milk with a hint of green coloring. Honestly, the mint-green color told me everything before I even took a sip. The location is great, the décor has a cute Parisian feel, and the staff was helpful, but overall it just didn’t do it for me. I probably won’t return.
Village Baking Co. is a wonderful French-style boulangerie that brings a real sense of authenticity to Dallas. However, like many popular local gems, the interior space is a bit small and can get quite crowded and loud, especially during the weekend rush when everyone is stopping in for their morning coffee and croissants. The food is the real highlight here, with a fantastic taste that rivals anything you’d find in Paris. Their pastries are flaky and buttery, with the almond croissants and pain au chocolat being absolute standouts. They also offer a great variety of other options, including fresh sourdough boules, savory quiches, and traditional sandwiches like the jambon beurre. The portions are very generous for a specialty bakery, and the quality of the ingredients really justifies the price point. The staff is consistently friendly and efficient, managing the busy lines with a smile and making sure everything is fresh. It is a solid, high-quality spot for a morning treat or a quick lunch, even if you have to wait a few minutes for a table.
The food and various baked items are consistently fresh and delicious. They are a genuine boulangerie. The service is efficient and engaging. The aesthetic of the place feels like a French bakery/pastry shop. But the interior dining space is cramped, feels cluttered, and some of the tabletops are loose and janky. Combine that with round tables that are too small if you have a few items and your overall experience goes from great to good.
My wife, dog and I come here every weekend. It's become a ritual for us. The scones are amazing (that's our ritual, but everything I've gotten is delicious - I also recommend the pistachio tart and pretzel croissant) and espresso is good. Service is great, everyone is friendly and efficient. The outside seating is in the shade most of the day. Seriously, this place is basically perfect. I can't recommend it enough.
