Amazing bread and pastries with fast and very friendly service. Such a popular place. I got there around 9:30 and there was already a long line waiting outside. However the staff was so helpful and fast that the line was moved very quickly. I was in town for work and got sourdough levain (obs everyone’s fav according to a staff), an apple turnover, one of each blue berry and raspberry jam tart, and walnut bread, a slice of mushroom pizza and a blueberry biscuit. Oh my gosh. Everything just tasted so good. Fresh and delicious. My best pizza ever. The olives, mushroom, and onions just mix so well together with the pesto. Walnut cinnamon loaf was so loaded with the beautifully glazed walnuts. Sourdough cheese roll was so delicious. Everything jam was so naturally sweet and freshly made. Turnover was so crispy and with an amazing blend with apple slices and cinnamon. Everything simply was so yummy and fresh. Good price for the quality offered. With the organic flour. Def a 6/5!!

The wait wasn’t that bad. The bread and pastry selections were perfect. The apple turnovers delicious and French bread great with butter or to have with dinner.

I bought ACME bread from the grocery before and liked it. And I just found out this place, what a shame that I didn’t know it existed, even though I live close by! Thumbs up, best bread variety, my kid loves it, can’t stop eating! I like the olive bread, the mushroom pizza and the cheddar twist. So glad we have it in the east bay, such a gem.

Acme Bread is a quintessential Berkeley staple--a well-established history, everything thoughtfully made from scratch, a local favorite. At this beloved outpost, you feel like you're ordering straight from the kitchen. All the breads and pastries are on display with handwritten signs. I suggest walking up to the window ahead of time to get an idea of what you want to get, since their website isn't comprehensive. It focuses on breads (loaves and rolls), but they have a few turnovers, madeleines, and other seasonal rotating selections. I loved the fruit jam biscuits, which had a delicious earthy taste from the the spelt and wasn't too buttery. They also have these giant quarters of focaccia-based "pizza", vegetarian, creative toppings, very fresh as you would expect. Prices are fair; quality is good, but if you buy a lot of stuff it becomes a splurge. The line can get long but it moves steadily. Parking is manageable with the private lot and additional section in the back.
