Amy's Bakery is a longtime bakery in Los Angeles, CA, located at 633 N Spring St #6 in Chinatown. For locals who grew up celebrating birthdays with cakes from this neighborhood shop, the bakery carries a sense of familiarity and tradition that still brings people back. Open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, it is a convenient stop for picking up desserts, ordering a cake ahead of time, or browsing classic bakery items in central Los Angeles.

What stands out most at Amy's Bakery is its reputation for cakes, especially lighter styles that are less sweet than many standard American bakery cakes. Several customers specifically return for whipped cream frosted cakes, describing them as light, fluffy, and well suited for birthdays and family gatherings. Reviews also mention cakes made with real fruit, which adds to the bakery’s appeal for people who prefer fresher flavors and a softer, more delicate finish. For shoppers in Los Angeles looking for a neighborhood bakery with Asian-style cake preferences in mind, that combination is an important draw.

The atmosphere described by customers feels nostalgic and rooted in the area’s long-established food scene. Many visitors connect the bakery with childhood memories, family traditions, and milestone celebrations. The staff is often noted as friendly, and preordering appears to be a common choice for customers who know exactly what they want for birthdays or special occasions. That makes Amy's Bakery a practical option for families, returning locals, and anyone nearby who wants a classic Chinatown bakery experience rather than a trendy dessert concept.

At the same time, customer feedback is mixed, and that context matters. While many people praise the cakes for being delicious, not overly sweet, and dependable for celebrations, some reviews mention concerns about dryness or freshness in certain case items. Taken together, the reviews suggest that Amy's Bakery is best known for its custom or preordered cakes, especially for customers seeking whipped cream frosting and fruit-filled cakes, while walk-in experiences may vary depending on the day and selection.

For people searching for a bakery in Los Angeles, California with a longstanding local presence, Amy's Bakery remains part of Chinatown’s neighborhood fabric. It may be especially worth considering if you want a birthday cake with a lighter texture, real fruit, and a more traditional style that longtime customers remember fondly. Whether you are continuing a family tradition or simply exploring bakeries in Los Angeles, this shop offers a familiar, community-based option with a loyal following built over time.

I wanted almond cookies. They were closed a year ago. I recommend long’s family pastry across the block. They have decent almond cookies there.

I have always come here to get my birthday cakes as a child with my parents. Their cakes are delicious and not to sweet. Uses real fruit in their cake. The customer service is great. 10/10 would recommend.

Although the staff is friendly, the quality of the cakes has really declined. I ordered a cake here because my parents used to buy from this place years ago when it was very good. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case. The cake was dry, tasted old, and the frosting seemed expired. It was very disappointing compared to how it used to be.

I always preorder cakes from this bakery. The staff is always friendly. If you are looking for a light fluffy whipped cream frosted cake, this is the place to order from.

Service was admirable but i honestly don’t know about the great reviews…. The cake I bought from the case was incredibly dry and the fruit inside wayyy past due. It was decorated with some very stale almonds and the other goods we bought from the case were super stale. Sketchy outside, Nostalgic inside but the overall taste wasn’t good…
