Annam VL is a Vietnamese restaurant on SE Belmont Street in Portland, Oregon, serving a rotating selection of Vietnamese soups and home-style dishes. Located at 3336 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97214, it gives local diners a place to explore familiar Vietnamese flavors as well as dishes that may be harder to find on a typical restaurant menu. Customer reviews highlight its soups, street-food-inspired small bites, and the opportunity to try different specialties on different days.

A distinctive part of the experience is the changing soup and pho selection. Rather than offering the same featured soup every day, Annam VL rotates dishes by weekday, giving the kitchen a chance to prepare each one fresh and allowing guests to come back for something new. Reviews mention bánh canh, bún riêu, and bún bò Huế among the dishes guests have enjoyed. The rotating menu is especially appealing if you like discovering regional Vietnamese soups or want to plan a return visit around a particular craving. Because selections vary, checking what is being served that day can help you choose.

Customers also describe the food as reminiscent of home cooking and the street-food stalls of Vietnam. That makes Annam VL a good fit for diners seeking Vietnamese specialties beyond the most familiar standards, including people who grew up with Vietnamese food and are looking for tastes that feel close to home. Reviews mention flavorful appetizers and small bites alongside the soups, with one guest praising fresh bánh bèo and another calling out soft, delicious bánh tằm trộn. Those details suggest a menu worth exploring one dish at a time, whether you arrive with a favorite in mind or want to try something new.

The atmosphere comes through in the food: guests describe a solid overall experience, satisfying dishes, and service they found welcoming. Some note that portions and prices may not suit every expectation, so it can help to look over the menu and decide what sounds right for your visit. With an evolving selection, the restaurant is particularly suited to a relaxed meal where the day’s special is part of the reason to stop in. It may also be a good choice for sharing a few small bites before settling into a bowl of soup.

Annam VL is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and closed Monday and Tuesday, so it is best suited to breakfast, brunch, or lunch rather than a late dinner. Its 4.7-star rating across 155 reviews reflects a strong local response, while individual experiences naturally vary. If you are searching for a Vietnamese restaurant in Portland, Oregon, with rotating pho and soup specialties, home-style cooking, and flavors inspired by Vietnam’s everyday food culture, Annam VL offers a distinctive option on SE Belmont Street.

This place delivered a pretty solid overall experience, and everything we ordered was at least decent, with some dishes standing out more than others. The bò bía was fresh and tasty, with a good balance of filling and a flavorful dipping sauce. The bánh ít trần was another highlight—soft, delicious, and paired really well with the fish sauce and savory filling. We also tried the hủ tíu bò kho, which was decent, though we felt the broth could use a bit more aroma and a stronger beefy flavor to really stand out. On the other hand, the miến gà was very good. The broth was clean and comforting, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Overall, a nice Vietnamese spot with a few standout dishes, and definitely worth checking out if you’re in Portland.

i grew up in a multigenerational viet household blessed with amazing cooking, my experiences here were no different and it was the first time ive gone to a viet restaurant with actual home cooking banh canh, bun rieu, bun bo hue, etc etc…i love how it rotates as it gives you a chance to try it all. what a genius way to introduce people to viet food beyond banh mi, pho and strong coffee. ive tried most things already, but what really struck me in the best way was the hu tieu bo kho. holy hell. not only was the taste perfect but it came piping hot, just how it should always be. when my mom came to visit from san jose, ca she tried the banh it and gave her stamp of approval. been going through lengths in her own kitchen to figure out how to get it exact the way they make it here. great food, kind people

Solid food and service. The dinner and small bites menu really reminds me of the street food you'd find in Vietnam. The prices are a bit on the high side for the portion sizes, but if you’re craving authentic Viet food, this place won't disappoint.

This place is a fantastic place for high quality Vietnamese Pho and Soups. Please be ready and aware that they rotate their Pho/Soups by day of the week. This allows them to make each dish as fresh as possible and with as much flavor as possible. They do a have a good list of appetizers that will be there regardless of the day. Two appetizers will can be one person own meal. The Bahn Mi is really tasty and fresh and a reasonable side. The two soups my wife and I had were some of the most rich and flavorful Viet Soups we've ever had. The Chili oil is really really really good but be careful because it will hit you with a dry back of the throat burn. You won't feel like your mouth is on fire but if you overdo it you will be coughing like crazy. I highly recommend coming to this place the staff are super nice and caring about. They want to make really good food and share it with people. All the meats, meatballs, and viet cured meats are super tasty and high quality. Best I ever had in Portland.
