As Kneaded Bakery

A notable operational shift has occurred: customers are finally permitted inside the shop floor. On all previous visits, ordering was restricted entirely to the exterior door frame, so being able to step inside the bakery significantly improves the experience. Arriving shortly after the morning opening window yielded easy street parking. This area of San Leandro is fortunate to have an excellent bakery nearby, and I am glad to call it my home bakery. The morning selection was impressive, with three specific bakes demonstrating great technical execution: The Cherry Hand Pie: The first item to catch my eye in the display. The flavor profile brings back childhood nostalgia, channeling a classic Hostess fruit pie but re-engineered into an elevated version. The pastry texture is excellent, yielding a clean, flaky dough that holds up perfectly against the fruit filling. The Blueberry-Walnut Bostock: A great alternative version of a traditional Bostock. Cut thick with a satisfyingly chewy crumb, the blueberries are well-integrated, bursting during the chew to provide just the right amount of natural sweetness alongside the walnuts. The Traditional Croissant: A beautiful technical execution of laminated dough. The exterior appearance boasts a uniform golden bake, and bisection reveals a fully developed aeration and an impeccable open honeycomb crumb structure. This is top-tier viennoiserie craftsmanship. As Kneaded Bakery remains a wonderful neighborhood staple. Between the artisan craftsmanship, excellent pastry rotation, and the welcoming indoor setup, it is easily one of the premier baking programs in the area.

This place is a gem. It’s a takeout local bakery with plenty of delicious options. Some of my favorites are the focaccia (best one I’ve ever had), triple chocolate cookie, and the garlic twist. It’s a bit expensive but the bread & pastries are very fresh and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. Every time I bring some of their stuff home, my (very health conscious) partner and kids devour everything within a day 🤭🤭

Great bakery. I get some too good to go deals but I also buy some great cookies from them! Pretty much everything is tasty. The cookies- a little crispy on the outside with a little soft and chewy toward the center. The breads are incredible!

As kneeded is one of the best bakeries in the east bay. Their beard is consistently good and priced fairly. They sell central milling flour by the pound five lb bag. Their pretzels are the closest thing to a German pretzel I’ve found in the Bay Area. Chewy with a bit a bite from the lye bath, brown on the outside with a white slightly sweet interior. Though their arms could be a hair thinner and crispier. Breads are excellent with their porridge loaf being outstanding. Only reason I give four stars for atmosphere is that they don’t feel cozy but more working bakery with the front counter blending right into the bakery in the back.

My favorite bakery in San Leandro! Everything is delicious - be sure to pop by regularly to try their seasonal noshes, especially their hand pies! My favorites: cardamom roll, everything knot, and their pretzel.
