Hands down the best kimchi I have ever had. I was in the area for a vet appointment and had a craving for sushi. This place happened to be only a minute away with good reviews, So I thought I would try it. Boy an i glad I did! I will be stopping by here regularly To pick up my kimchi and other items.
I'm so glad I found this wonderful family owned business that has THEE best authentic homemade kimchis and Korean delicacies! From the kimbap, cucumber and radish kimchis to the wonderful acorn jellys which is so hard to find! The location is not hard to find it's right behind the churches chicken off bridgeport and before the human society. I wish I would've found it sooner! Definitely a 10/10 on flavor and portions for price!
An Instagram reel brought me here! Family owned. A gentleman runs the front, and the ladies are in the back making all the grab~n~go items. I felt welcomed and enjoyed the variety of products. While shopping, quite a few locals stopped in to buy from the prepared food counter. The staff and regulars enjoyed conversation talking about family and catch-up on neighborhood happenings! Yes ... I was eavesdropping a bit 🤫 Today's haul consisted of pantry items and 반찬 banchan / side dishes. Enough to make my own 반찬통 (lunch box) banchantong for 3 meals. My grand total was $85. Compared to eating out, you can't go wrong to buy items for a set meal here. I really love supporting family owned businesses, and there are plenty in Lakewood and Tacoma. I encourage you to drop in.
I'll begin my review by saying the one reason to go to this Asian Market instead of anywhere else is because no other store is going to have Angie. Angie's parents opened the business many decades ago. Angie grew up working in the store. They probably would put her parents in jail today for child endangerment, or something like that. I live in Gig Harbor and had an appointment before lunch in Lakewood. After my appointment I wanted to grab a bite to eat and put "groceries" into my maps program. This place came up and I decided to give it a try sight unseen. Driving up to the business gave me cause to wonder if it was a good choice or not. I decided to give it a try, park, and go inside. As soon as I walked in the door, Angie greeted me with her friendly bubbly personality. At the time, I just knew her as the woman behind the counter at the cash register. I walked around the store. Being a white man, I had no idea what many of the things in the store were. After wondering through the store I overheard Angie talk to someone about getting him something for his lunch by making up a special container that combined several of the items packaged for sale in the store. Angie is so accomidating. Once that customer left, I engaged her in conversation and learned she is the daughter of the owner of the store. She is the best reason to shop at this store. She is super knowledgable, accomidating, and friendly. She gives me the feeling that she would give me her own coat if I was in real need of it. Many items are made in the store. I had some kimchi of which they have many kinds in the store, and I had some kind of white fish that has an egg batter. Both were excellent. I can't wait to be back in Lakewood again so I can go into the store and try something else. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you give this little family owned and run store a try. Oh, and I found out Angie's husband works in the store and makes all the Jerky. I don't know what kinds of Jerky they have but I need to try some the next time. Angie told me it was a big seller in the store and sure enough, while I was there, someone came in to buy some.
This place did NOT disappoint. Kimchee & Kim Bop we're delicious!!! The jerky is also amazing! I only tried the original end pieces but they also have spicy & extra spicy. I will definitely be back.
