Bakery Ngoc Lan is a Vietnamese bakery tucked into the heart of Viet Town along Bellaire Blvd in Houston, TX. You'll find it at 11205 Bellaire Blvd C14-A, in a corner of the city known for its vibrant Vietnamese community and easy parking. If you're hunting for something a little different from the usual coffee-and-pastry routine, this spot has built a small following for its playful, eye-catching baked goods.

The star of the menu is the banh bao — Vietnamese steamed buns reimagined in cute, fun shapes that have made the rounds on Instagram. Customers love that you can pick your own from the fridge case, chosing between sweet and savory options. The pig bao, filed with BQ pork and chese, is a frequent favorite, while the Hello Kitty bao hides a gentle mung bean custard that's subtly sweet rather than sugary. There are classic options too, like salted egg and pork buns and custard buns, so there's something for both adventurous and traditional palates.

The vibe here is casual and grab-and-go rather than sit-down. Buns are kept chilled in the display fridge, so they're ready to take home and warm up on your own schedule. That makes Bakery Ngoc Lan a handy stop if you're picking up a quick snack, gathering treats for kids, or bringing something a little whimsical to a gathering. The shaped banh bao in particular tend to be a hit with little ones and anyone who appreciates food that's as charming to look at as it is to eat.

A quick note on hours: the bakery is open most days from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but it's closed on Wednesdays, so plan your visit accordingly. With a 4.1 rating across 62 reviews, it's a neighborhood bakery that draws steady curiosity from locals and visitors exploring the Bellaire food scene. If you're in the area and want to try something beyond the standard bakery fare, the colorful buns at Bakery Ngoc Lan are worth a look.

Interesting menu, this a Vietnamese bakery located in Viet Town in Bellaire. I was in the area one random afternoon and stopped by to try some buns. The salted egg and pork bun is interesting but actually dry on the inside. The custard bun was too sweet. If you have sensitive teeth or gums beware.

The buns here seem to have an odd taste/smell after heating up. I think they could be couple days-old hence the smell of refrigerator. One of my buns even had mold on it, it wasnt there when I bought it but after about 4hrs. I can tell they are not up to quality, some are more fresh than others. Overall not recommended!

If I can give them ZERO star I would!!!! I bought 2 buns this morning and drove straight to home so there’s no reason for my buns got spoiled! Unfortunately this bun for my baby, she refused to eat the meat and then I tried it, it’s SPOILED! Please give all the old buns for so long in trash, don’t risk customer health for your advantage. This is not the first neither, so twice is enough for me 🤦

I recently visited this bakery because I seen videos on Instagram that they offer an array of cute and fun-shaped banh bao. While I was initially expecting the banh bao to be warm, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are stored in a fridge. The unique twist is that you can select your banh bao from the fridge, and they are steamed on the spot to warm them up before enjoying. This ensures that you can indulge in your treats right away. The prices are reasonable, adding to the overall appeal. The combination of creative shapes, convenient warming process, and fair pricing make this bakery a delightful destination for those looking to satisfy their sweet cravings for banh bao that is a bit difficult to find variety in Houston!

This place is a hidden gem for sure. Delicious bao complete in an adorable package. They have both sweet and savory options. Highly recommend the pig bao, it's bbq pork and cheese and so so good. The hello kitty bao is mung bean custard and it was also good, it's more of a subtle sweet and not overly sweet which is my preference. Definitely will be coming back
