Baltic Bakery is a neighborhood bakery at 2617 E Allegheny Ave in Philadelphia, PA, known for Polish-style breads, pastries, and other freshly baked treats. Customer reviews describe an old-world Polish character in the flavors, with baked goods that are fresh and not overly sweet. For people looking for a local bakery with a distinctive Polish selection, Baltic Bakery offers a welcome alternative to more familiar American-style pastries.

Customers mention a varied selection of sweets and baked goods, including babka, rye bread, poppy seed rolls, prune-filled doughnuts, cookies, and chrusciki, also called hrust. The doughnuts are a popular choice, and pączki have drawn special attention on Fat Thursday. One customer enjoyed both rose- and raspberry-filled pączki, while another praised the balance of filling and pastry in the prune doughnuts. A reviewer also noted that the shop has offered some French pastries, alongside its Polish favorites.

Freshness is a recurring theme in customer experiences. One visitor found the babka had come from the oven only hours earlier, while another picked up rye bread that was still warm in the morning. Reviewers describe the chrusciki as light and fresh, and the cookies as treats that were well received by everyone who tried them. The selection is described as modest but thoughtfully stocked; individual preferences can vary, as one customer found the poppy seed roll a little dry. Overall, the reviews point to a place where freshness and traditional flavors stand out.

The atmosphere sounds simple and welcoming, with customers noting a clean, well-stocked shop and affordable prices. There is also a Polish bookstore inside, giving the bakery an additional connection to Polish culture. That detail may appeal to visitors interested in more than a pastry stop, while the range of breads and sweets makes the shop suitable for picking up something to share, bringing home a fresh loaf, or choosing a treat for a casual gathering.

pączki for the win! I stopped in on Fat Thursday. The store was so clean and well stocked. I got the rose and I got the raspberry. Both winners. I also got two cookies. Everyone loved them! There is also a Polish bookstore in here.

Truly a hidden gem, Baltic Bakery never disappoints. Each and every baked good I’ve purchased from this place has been phenomenal. You can taste the old world essence of Poland in each and every bite, and the prices are more than affordable. Nothing is ever “too sweet” as most Americanized pastries are. The flavor profiles are always on point, and balanced. Give them a try!

Best Polish bakery around. They did have some french pastries. Babka was no more than 5 hours out of the oven - unbelievably fresh. Chrusciki - same- really fresh, light and tasty. We'll be back for sure.

Baltic Bakery offers a modest selection of freshly baked bread and pastries. The rye bread was so fresh that it was still too warm to slice at 9 am. The prune filled donuts had the right balance of filling to pastry. I found the poppy seed roll a little dry. The box of hrust had a generous quantity. The only negative is the lack of variety.
