Bangkok Palace Portland is a Thai restaurant at 300 SW Taylor St in Portland, OR, serving guests in downtown Portland. It’s an option for a Thai meal while visiting the city center, including a quick lunch stop or a casual meal during a downtown outing. Customer feedback describes a straightforward, cafeteria-style experience: guests order at the counter, find a table, and have their food brought to them. That practical setup may suit diners who value a simple, relaxed meal rather than a formal dining experience. The restaurant’s listed hours are Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Saturday, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.; it is closed Sunday. Check the current hours before visiting, especially if your plans depend on a particular service time.
One dish specifically praised by a guest is the massaman curry, described as flavorful without being overly hot. The review mentions peanuts, carrots, and potatoes, with a balanced level of spice—useful details for diners deciding what to order. Other guests mention curries and well-seasoned food, though spice expectations can vary: some reviewers found their dishes spicier than expected. If you are sensitive to heat, consider asking about the spice level when ordering. The feedback points to a menu with Thai curry options, but individual preferences differ, so a dish that suits one guest may not be the right fit for everyone.
Guests have described the service and meal pace in different ways. Some praise friendly customer service and quick food delivery, while others characterize the ordering process as counter-service, with payment before sitting down. Reviews also vary in their assessment of the food, from “decent” to a favorite Thai meal in Portland. Taken together, these experiences offer a more useful picture than a one-size-fits-all promise: Bangkok Palace Portland may appeal to someone looking for a convenient downtown Thai lunch, a curry, or a casual stop after shopping nearby, while diners seeking a quiet or full-service setting may want to consider the reported cafeteria-style arrangement and their own expectations.
Bangkok Palace Portland has a listed rating of 4.3 from 571 reviews, providing a broad snapshot of customer feedback rather than a guarantee of any individual visit. The details most often useful to a potential guest are the downtown location, lunch-focused schedule, counter-ordering style reported by customers, and curry options such as massaman. It may be a practical choice for solo diners, couples, and visitors who want a casual Thai meal in central Portland. Because the restaurant’s hours are limited to midday service and Sunday is listed as closed, planning ahead can help make a visit smoother. For the best experience, arrive during listed hours and communicate your preferred spice level when ordering.

We came here to have what I thought would be excellent Thai food. We had just flown in from a long flight and wanted somewhere quiet to eat. When we arrived and came in we were almost ran off by the hostess/server she was quick to let us know they were closing in an hour I think it was actually over an hour. We told her okay no problem we would not take long to eat. I could tell she really didn't want us to come in which is unfortunate because we are good tippers. Anyway my husband and daughter liked what they got I got the crab fried rice and it was awful no flavor and the crab seemed like imitation crab after I asked her she said it was not but I eat a lot of crab and I don't think this was true crab meat. Anyway I barely touched my food we were there probably all of 25 minutes. I will never eat there again. Definitely do not recommend it.
Had the massaman curry and loved it—perfect amount of flavor/spice and wasn’t very hot. Peanuts are some of my fav and there were a few whole ones, carrots and potatoes. Quick, clean and tasty for a reasonable price. Well-presented, great customer service. Love this place and want to keep it open, so come on down and support them!! The building even got new paint and the business got a new sign and there was nice smooth jazz for lovely evening ambiance.
Wife had cravings for Thai food and we stopped in this spot on our trip to downtown Portland. It has a very cafeteria feel where you order food and sit down and they bring it to your table. The food was decent but far from the best Thai food we've ever had. Ordered them medium and spicy but there wasn't any heat on any of the dishes.
Popped here for quick late lunch. The place was pretty much empty only myself and another couple. Food must be ordered at the till and then paid before you sit at a table. …
We absolutely love it!! stopped by here after pioneer place - the service was excellent, food came out quickly, and everything was delicious. the curries were spicier than we expected, but all the food was well seasoned and some of the best thai we've had in Portland. ***must try the chicken and shrimp dumplings if it is a thing you might like. FAVORITE of the night ❤️
