At Boudin SF, a Bakery in Fremont, CA, the appeal starts with the sourdough: chewy, tangy, and central to much of what guests come in for. With a 4.2 rating from 809 reviews, it has become a familiar stop in central Fremont for customers who want comfort food with a bakery backbone and a location that is simple to work into the day.
The menu is especially known locally for sourdough bread and the warm clam chowder served in a bread bowl. Several guests point to the chowder as the standout: rich, hearty, and satisfying when you want something comforting rather than complicated. Sandwiches, including a bacon and cheese option mentioned by customers, make the bakery feel more like a relaxed café than a bread counter. Drinks such as a mocha frappe add another reason to stop by when you are not planning a full meal but still want a quick treat.
For atmosphere, Boudin SF keeps things practical and welcoming. Reviewers describe the store as clean, well kept, conveniently located, and supported by friendly staff with quick checkout. That combination matters for a Fremont bakery because many visitors are fitting food into busy family visits, shopping trips, work breaks, or weeknight dinners. It is a good fit for parents taking a child to lunch, relatives meeting while visiting the area, office workers grabbing something warm, or anyone who wants sourdough to slice at home.
Hours are also straightforward: the bakery is open from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Saturday, and 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday. That schedule makes it useful for both midday cravings and early evening meals. If you are searching for a Bakery in Fremont, CA with sourdough loaves, sandwiches, hot soup, and a clean casual setting, Boudin SF on Mowry Avenue offers a dependable option rooted in its signature bread. The best experience is likely ordering directly in store, where guests can see the bread, choose what fits the moment, and enjoy the familiar comfort of a hot bread bowl.
Like any busy casual restaurant, experiences can vary, especially with third-party delivery, but the most consistent praise centers on the sourdough, clam chowder, clean space, and friendly service. For locals and visitors exploring the East Bay, Boudin SF is the kind of familiar bakery-café that works when the group has mixed appetites: one person may want soup, another wants a sandwich, and someone else just wants fresh bread for later. It is simple, filling, and easy to recommend when you are nearby and craving something warm.

Sign in to reviewGood food all around, but the clam chowder is the star of the show—rich, comforting, and genuinely great. Everything else was solid, making it an easy spot to recommend if you’re in the area and craving something hearty and satisfying.
I love Boudin sourdough! My daughter and I were visiting family so I took her here to have lunch and pick up some bread. I had a bacon and cheese sandwich and it was delicious! The store was clean and well kept and in a good location. The only complaint I have is the lady that took my order kept stopping to do other things (handing out pick up orders, etc.), sometimes while I was mid sentence giving my order. They weren't too busy but appeared to be short handed behind the counter. I still recommend Boudin SF for the best sourdough!
Unsure what we wanted for dinner tonight we finally decided on Boudin. Wish we had decided on something else. It was very disappointing!! Not only did we already pay more for the food since we ordered through Uber eats to get what we got. Ordered a clam chowder soup with bread bowl only to get a cup half full that was not even hot. (Yes, I paid extra for priority delivery to avoid it getting cold but still was). Then ordered the Asian Chicken salad that is supposed to have shredded kale which I love only to find a few pieces of kale and about 99% cabbage with the wrong dressing to top it off. Thank god the avocado sandwich came as ordered but they also forgot the chips. The funny thing is that all items were marked on the receipt but did they really check the order? Or just marking the receipt? I don't usually leave these kind of reviews but tonight my order was very disappointing. Didn't get to enjoy my dinner!
First time coming here good experience I tried the mocha frappe it was delicious. They use a machine that they use in Mexico to do milkshakes. I was impressed love the sourdough bread for my toast they have a machine to cut your bread if you choose to staff really friendly .
Love this Boudin restaurant! The location is convenient, located in central Fremont. Staff is very friendly and check out is quick. Food quality is consistent and their signature claim chowder served hot in the bread bowl is much better than the canned soup or from Costco. The restaurant is really clean and seats are comfortable. The dining experience is excellent!
