Located at 1408 Clement St in San Francisco’s Richmond District, this neighborhood favorite has earned a strong reputation with a 4.6 rating from hundreds of reviews. People often come for coffee and pastries, but what keeps Breadbelly in regular conversation is how distinct its menu feels. Instead of offering a generic café experience, it gives guests something specific, flavorful, and easy to remember.
A big part of that reputation comes from a few menu items that customers mention again and again. The kaya toast is one of the clearest signatures here, praised for its creamy coconut egg jam, fluffy milk bread, and balanced finish with sea salt. The egg sandwich also gets frequent love, and the biscuit sandwich is another standout for people who appreciate rich flavor and texture. If you want to bring something home, the shokupan loaf is a popular choice. On the pastry side, guests have called out items like the fig pastry, showing that Breadbelly is more than just a stop for drinks.
For coffee and tea lovers, Breadbelly has built a particularly loyal following. Reviewers describe the rosemary honey latte as one of the best coffees they had during a trip to San Francisco, noting the extra care in the finish and flavor. The matcha latte has an especially strong reputation, with some customers saying it is among the best they have had anywhere. That kind of feedback makes this San Francisco coffee shop a smart pick for people who care about both creative drinks and well-executed staples. Whether you are meeting a friend, taking a morning break, or planning a casual café stop while exploring the city, the menu gives you several good reasons to stay awhile.
The overall experience also seems to match the food. Customers often describe the staff as polite, and even when there is a line, service is noted as fast and organized. The atmosphere comes across as lively and popular without losing that welcoming neighborhood feel. It is the kind of place that works well for solo coffee runs, low-key catch-ups, and visitors who want to try a spot that people in the city genuinely talk about. The steady stream of positive reviews suggests that expectations are usually met by what arrives at the table.
For anyone searching for a trusted coffee shop in San Francisco, CA, Breadbelly offers a combination of specialty drinks, thoughtful pastries, and savory bites that feels grounded rather than trendy for the sake of it. If your ideal café visit includes excellent matcha, memorable kaya toast, and a space that feels worth the wait, this Clement Street destination is a name to know.

Sign in to reviewBreadbelly is one of those rare, true 5/5 spots. The egg sandwich and kaya toast are both out of this world. Don't forget to bring home a loaf of their shokupan. It is fairly spendy but it's one of those places you'll be happy to support.
The kaya toast is as good as they say it is. The staff is very polite and the service was fast despite the line. Only one restroom is available but it’s clean. Would come back for the toast again.
Biscuit sandwich was immaculate - both flavors and textures were unreal. I also got the fig pastry which was so tasty. Highly recommend if you're in the SF area - NYT wasn't lying about this one!
Breadbelly was one of my favorite stops on my SF trip. The kaya toast was EXCEPTIONAL - creamy coconut egg jam on fluffy milk bread with sea salt. It was so balanced and unlike anything I’ve ever had. The rosemary honey latte was also one of the best coffees I’ve had. The cream on top was extremely thick and when I mixed it into the drink, made it creamy. The rosemary balanced out the sweetness. Plenty of outdoor seating which was great since it was a sunny morning. Would highly recommend Breadbelly!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE breadbelly. It’s has the BEST matcha lattes in the city in my opinion, even better than some of the matcha I had in Japan, which is A LOT. I have been trying to find a matcha that tops this place and very few places come close. I want to gatekeep this place so much and for as long as I can but it’s becoming increasingly popular these days. So expect long lines on weekends. I’m just sad I can’t go everyday because it’s so far out in Richmond. Yes the prices are pricey ($8+ for matcha) and yes they charge an employee mandate fee. But it’s worth it. I also love their Kaya toast and bun. Their rotating seasonal drinks are great too. 10/10
