Sign in to reviewCame here later in the day. The regular donut style passion fruit one is quite dense and cake-like which made it dry. The cream ones are better. The ube flavor cream inside was ok-ish and the donut part was kinda like Leonard’s malasada style so it was good. The guava cream donut was more firm and little dry, but the cream cheese helped it. I wish the cream part tasted more like guava. None were overly sweet. The savory one I tried was the Caprese one. It wasn’t super flavorful. The bread softened up at home when heated but it still was kinda dense and dry. I didn’t try coffee. Staff were pleasant, but the one that helped me didn’t seem super knowledgeable when I asked questions. My total spent was $25. If you go, get one with cream.
this place was the perfect stop in the middle of my long bike ride yesterday. i had it on my radar and was going to be near, so donuts for lunch it was! they were sold out of about half of their options around 2pm but had plenty left, and they were still deliciously fresh then by then. i grabbed their last blueberry cream donut (love a filled brioche) and a caprese bun for something salty. and despite being a total coffee snob (i make my own espresso at home and even roast my own coffee beans in my kitchen!) i tried a gibraltar aka a cortado. i'm surprised i got a pic of the the caprese before i inhaled it. they warmed it up for me, and there was a mouth-watering ripe tomato in every bite. little pesto/basil with the crispy cheese. wow. perfectly crunchy and also juicy. delicious the blueberry cream was awesome. the flavor isn't too sweet, nice light fry with a ring on the outside, good gluten development... all markers of a superbly made donut. and the coffee! wow! when a bakery is good at their food options, i don't necessarily expect great coffee, but they carry verve which is a winner, and a crowd pleaser. not too dark, but still solid enough to hold up to a baked good. milk texture was spot on. overall super impressed with this place. friendly service, and they mask (yay). one star off the atmosphere for no bathroom. i really wanted some soap and water after all the portapotty use of my bike ride :(
Got the black sesame, lemon blueberry, Ube and cookies and creme. They have a lot of unique flavors, doughy texture, very pungent fillings, the lemon blueberry was my favorite! Ube was popular with my family.
I absolutely love the gourmet donuts at Bun Appetit! Their Guava Cheesecake and Chocolate Cream are my favorite flavors — rich, flavorful, and beautifully crafted. The doughnuts are fabulously designed and almost too pretty to eat. It’s one of the few true gourmet donut shops in the San Francisco Bay Area, which makes it feel extra special. That said, they are definitely on the pricey side. While the quality and creativity are impressive, be prepared to pay a premium. Another downside is that they don’t have seating inside, so it’s more of a grab-and-go spot rather than a place to sit and enjoy your treat. Overall, a delicious and unique indulgence — just plan accordingly! 🍩✨
The food is literally sickeningly sweet: we shared half a specialty donut apiece, and we've both been sick for hours, groaning with stomach aches. HOW can they shove that much sugar in one donut? WHY? The trick of this place is you gotta treat each specialty donut like a WHOLE CAKE. Then you'll be fine. WARNING: DO NOT EXCEED ONE SPECIALTY DONUT PER DAY. 🤮👈 The worst culprit was this brie cheese and wine. It was a cake filled with cream. We actually used it as a birthday cake (it cost as much as one, too, but that's another story🤫). The only specialty donut that wasn't too much (still don't exceed recommended limits) was the cranberry. This was a masterpiece. It was a perfect mix of sweet and bright flavors for the sauce, though once again stuffed with cream. Otherwise DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and skip on the tempting specialty donuts, and get something less saccharine. The Dubai chocolate has a great pistachio filling, but the rest was overall far too rich. The green tree Christmas tree green tea topping was ... green tea. As a frosting. Covering frosting. Maybe go for that other green tea non specialty donut. It took us days to eat these all, and it will be a a few years (and having a child who can eat the food) before we can manage to drag ourselves back. Next tine I have a serious donut craving and want some overly sweet American sweet, I'll just hike over to the regular donut shop: makes this sugar bomb look mild in comparison. Don't let the Asian flavors fool you: they could tone down the sugar 1000% (or use mochi dough, but that's also another story... when will Fremont finally get a mochi donut shop...).
