About

Bún Bò Huế Restaurant is listed on FindALoco in Portland, OR with address, phone, hours, and map location. Common services and related keywords include Vietnamese Restaurant.

Bún Bò Huế Restaurant is a Vietnamese restaurant on SE 82nd Avenue in Portland, Oregon, serving diners at 7002 SE 82nd Ave, Portland, OR 97266. Its name points to the central specialty: bún bò Huế, the bold, aromatic noodle soup associated with Huế. Customer reviews describe the broth as flavorful and satisfying, and several diners specifically recommend the restaurant for its bún bò Huế. The feedback also leaves room for personal taste: some visitors would prefer a stronger lemongrass aroma or more fermented shrimp paste, while others return year after year for the soup. That mix of detail makes this a useful stop for people seeking a local bowl and a place to form their own opinion.

The soup is the clearest reason to visit, but customers also mention thoughtful accompaniments. One reviewer appreciated banana flower and perilla leaves served alongside pho, as well as a small plate of chili sauce that let them add extra flavor. Because that comment refers to pho, it is best understood as one diner's experience rather than a promise about every order. Taken together, the reviews suggest a menu where Vietnamese noodle-soup traditions are central and where herbs and condiments can add freshness or heat. If you enjoy tasting broth as it is served and then adjusting the seasoning to your preference, the reported chili sauce and side herbs may be part of the appeal.

Reviewers describe the atmosphere as cozy, family-style, and welcoming, with friendly service noted by returning guests. One visitor also remarked that the restaurant looked more established than in earlier years and remembered a distinctive purple door against white walls, plus a wooden sign near the entrance. These observations offer a sense of place without promising a particular experience on every visit. The restaurant may suit people looking for a relaxed meal, longtime fans of bún bò Huế, and visitors exploring Vietnamese food in southeast Portland. Its reported 4.7-star rating across 659 reviews provides additional context, while individual opinions about broth intensity show why reading recent feedback and ordering to your own taste can be helpful.

Bún Bò Huế Restaurant is open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and is closed Wednesday. Its SE 82nd Avenue location makes the address easy to use when planning a Portland meal. Whether you are returning for a familiar bowl or trying bún bò Huế for the first time, consider asking about the soup and its accompaniments when you order. Diners who appreciate a cozy setting, attentive service, aromatic noodle soup, and the option to customize each spoonful may find this Vietnamese restaurant a worthwhile neighborhood choice. Check the listed hours before heading over, especially if Wednesday is your planned dining day.

Very nice flavor! They provided banana flower and Perilla leaves as sides to the pho, which is very special and I have never had this in other Pho restaurants. The soup tastes amazing and the small plate of special chili sauce added more flavor to the soup. The only thing I think they can improve is the pho it self. They are a little too soft to me. Other than that, I would give a super 5 star to this Pho restaurant!

This place has great BBH I was really surprised about the flavor of the soup but was missing lemongrass, and more fermented fish (mam ruoc) if you know, you know. Still good place for the BBH soup. Also it is hard to find a good restaurant that makes it right and this place I would recommend to people. Fresh vegetables is also a must. We ordered the Shrimp fried rice, and Bun Bo Hue soup (spicy beef soup) comes with pickled banana root, beansprouts, shredded cabbage. And if you want more spice ask for xa the (crushed hot thai chili peppers).

Good OG spot for bun bo hue in Portland! I’ve been coming here every time I visit Portland. This time the broth tasted a little plain, but still good overall. Friendly service and very family-style, cozy vibe

I stopped by on a cool morning, and the restaurant was fairly easy to find. The place looks much more established compared to years before. What stands out most is the purple door against the white walls. Outside, there is a wooden sign placed near the entrance, with engraved lettering that appears a little faded against the wood tone. If not for the bold signage on the wall, it might be easy to miss. The menu offers a wide variety of Vietnamese dishes, but I came here for exactly what the restaurant’s name promises—Bún Bò Huế. This iconic soup from Vietnam is famous for its rich and layered flavors. What makes it truly distinctive is the broth, traditionally simmered with beef bones and flavored with mắm ruốc Huế—a fermented shrimp paste made from tiny local sea shrimp using traditional methods. It is an essential ingredient in many dishes from Huế, especially soups and braised dishes, and carries the soul of central Vietnamese cuisine. An authentic bowl of Bún Bò Huế usually includes: a broth made with beef bones, fermented shrimp paste, lemongrass, and chili oil; thick round rice noodles; toppings such as beef, pork hock, blood cubes, and Huế-style pork sausage; served with fresh herbs, banana blossom, bean sprouts, Thai basil, and sawtooth herb. Here, the restaurant preserves nearly all of those traditional elements, with slight adjustments to suit local tastes. The staff were warm, cheerful, and attentive—especially Ms. Vân, along with two other team members whose names I didn’t have a chance to ask. According to Mr. Đức, the restaurant has been serving the community for 22 years. The dining space is thoughtfully arranged, making good use of natural light from the windows. I was particularly impressed by the ink-wash painting on the wall, which adds a calm artistic touch to the atmosphere. At the present time, with ongoing challenges in parts of Portland, it’s wise to stay aware of your surroundings when visiting this area. At around $18 for a bowl, it feels fair for such a specialty dish. Because of the distinctive aroma of mắm ruốc Huế, the dining room may have a strong scent for those who are not familiar with traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Overall, this is a place worth visiting for the experience, and I look forward to coming back to try more dishes next time.
