Café Nhan is a Vietnamese restaurant at 1606 W Passyunk Ave in Philadelphia, PA, serving familiar Vietnamese dishes in a small, neighborhood setting. Diners mention the restaurant’s intimate size and the steady presence of regulars, giving it the feel of a place people return to for a satisfying meal. With a 4.7 rating across 591 reviews, Café Nhan draws attention from locals and visitors looking for pho, bánh mì, and other Vietnamese favorites in South Philadelphia. Its compact dining room may suit a casual meal or a stop with a companion; because seating is limited, arriving at a quieter time may make it easier to find a table.
Pho is a standout in customer accounts, especially brisket pho. One diner praised its clear, clean-tasting broth and tender brisket, while others describe the pho as a dependable choice. Bun bò Huế is another frequently praised bowl, appreciated by reviewers for its bold character and, in one account, its real heat. Reviews also mention generous toppings and a variety of meats in a special bun bò Huế. If you are deciding what to order, these noodle soups offer a good introduction to the kitchen’s range, from carefully balanced broth to a more robust, spicy soup.
For a different kind of meal, customers call out bánh mì and gà rôti, or roasted chicken. One review describes the chicken as especially tender, and another highlights chicken wings that are crisp outside while remaining juicy and tender inside. Mì khô is also mentioned by a diner alongside bun bò Huế. Vietnamese coffee and tea provide a natural accompaniment, whether you are stopping in for lunch or rounding out a meal. These dishes make Café Nhan a choice for people who want options beyond pho, as well as for diners returning to explore more of the menu.
Café Nhan may be a good fit for neighborhood regulars, small groups, and anyone seeking Vietnamese comfort food in Philadelphia without a formal dining atmosphere. The customer feedback points to generous soup toppings, attentive care in the broth, and dishes people are eager to revisit; those are individual dining impressions, not a guarantee that every visit or order will be the same. The restaurant is open Monday and Tuesday, Thursday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and closed Wednesday. It is located on West Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia’s 19145 ZIP code. Check the hours before visiting, especially if you plan to come on Wednesday.

If I live around the area, I would frequent this place and it looks like there’s a lot of regulars at the time we visited. We got lucky with finding free parking (thanks to a friendly local ). We came at just the right time when there was an open table for two. The restaurant is very small, only 11 tables. My companion had to sit with his back to the bathroom, but he didn’t mind. He had the bun Bo Hue without the blood cube. He didn’t think it was too spicy but my sister, who had come another time said it was spicy, so it’s just a matter of what your level is. I had the Hue Thu with seafood. It was good, but I thought it a bit strange that the broth tasted pork base, and there were pork meats in it too. We also ordered the flan with fruit compote. It was ok. For two bowls of noodles soup and one dessert, our bill was $46 and we gave $9 tip. We avoided the 3% up charge by paying cash. The one unisex bathroom was clean.
A tiny place with some of the best food in the city. The Bun Bo Hue will heal you, & their banh mi & pho always hit. Their Gà Roti is some of the most tender chicken you’ll ever have. Be sure to get a Vietnamese coffee or tea, too!
Easily the best pho I’ve ever had. I ordered the brisket pho, and the broth was outstanding. It was crystal clear, incredibly clean, and free of any muddiness or heaviness. You can really taste the care that goes into it. The brisket was perfectly tender and absolutely delicious. The vegetables were fresh and vibrant as well. One of the most memorable bowls of pho I’ve had. I can’t wait to come back again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Is it crazy to say that I went to this restaurant 3 times this week? I feel like I could honestly come here everyday to eat! The chicken wings are so crispy, tender and juicy. They can honestly compete in a chicken wing competition if …
Finally, a Vietnamese restaurant just as good as my mom's cooking! We got the bún bò Huế đặc biệt and mì khô. They were generous with the toppings and meat variety offered in the soup and it was actually spicy! I would come back here.
