Cafe Thanh Truc is a neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant at 1037 S 8th St in Philadelphia, PA 19147. It serves customers every day of the week, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., making it an option for an early meal, lunch, or an afternoon stop. The address places it in South Philadelphia, where diners can look for a casual, traditional Vietnamese spot rather than a formal dining experience. Customer feedback describes the restaurant as a classic, unpretentious place, and its straightforward setting may suit people who value familiar Vietnamese cooking and a relaxed meal.

A standout choice in customer reviews is bun bo Hue, the spicy central Vietnamese noodle soup. Diners praise its broth as clean, deeply flavored, and satisfyingly spicy, and one review describes a bowl with beef slices, pork hock, tendon, and blood cubes. Guests who enjoy a bolder soup with a rich pork base may find this a particularly appealing reason to visit or order delivery. Several customers also speak highly of the broth, while one regular delivery customer says their orders have been consistently good. If you prefer more heat, a reviewer suggests asking for chili or chili sauce in addition to the sriracha available at the table.

The menu also has a vegetarian bun bo option, mentioned by a customer who had tried that dish. It can be worth asking the restaurant about its preparation and ingredients if you have dietary needs, since the available information does not specify what goes into the vegetarian version. Pho is another dish customers have tried, though opinions are mixed: one reviewer found it average compared with nearby options. This range of feedback gives prospective diners a practical picture of what guests most often praise and where expectations may differ. Bun bo Hue appears to be the more distinctive dish in the reviews provided.

Cafe Thanh Truc may work well for people exploring Vietnamese food, diners looking for a warming noodle soup, and locals seeking a casual place with daily hours. Reviews mention helpful service, including customers who say staff can assist despite limited shared English; arriving with patience and a clear dish request may make ordering easier. The restaurant’s rating is 4.6 from 151 reviews, offering a broad snapshot of customer experiences rather than a promise that every visit will be the same. For current hours, it is listed as open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Its focus on Vietnamese soups, particularly bun bo Hue, gives diners a concrete place to start when choosing what to order.

I’ve ordered delivery from here several times and they’re consistently good. Highly recommend their bun bo hue, it’s probably one of my favorite places for bun bo hue in the city! It has a clean, spicy pork broth and includes beef slices, pork hock, tendon, and blood cubes. I like how they also have rau ram and culantro herbs (but I think they forgot the culantro in an order). The ingredients are fresh and prices are good. I want to try their vegetarian version, bun bo chay, next time.

With so much competition nearby making really good pho, the pho here comes out average. I would have given it 4 stars because the service was great, but in the morning it smells like a fish market, a very pungent fish smell. Usually fish shouldn’t smell, unless it gets bad and that smell permeates the walls.
