Cakes & Bakes is a neighborhood Bakery in Fremont, CA, located at 3143 Walnut Ave, Fremont, CA 94538. With a 4-star rating from 853 customer reviews, it has become a familiar local stop for people looking for a quick bite, a casual snack run, or something flavorful later in the evening. Its address places it within the everyday Fremont food map, not a destination that requires a special occasion. The business is listed as a bakery, but the review highlights available here point strongly to a street-food favorite: pani puri, ordered fresh, served fast, and often remembered for its lively flavor.
For many customers, pani puri is the signature reason to visit Cakes & Bakes. Reviewers describe puris that are crisp enough to hold their crunch, paired with pani that brings a tangy, spicy, and refreshing balance. The experience is simple but satisfying: a quick plate that delivers bold flavor without the feel of a formal sit-down meal. People who enjoy Indian street-food style snacks, bright spice, and a mix of textures will find this one of the most talked-about items at this Fremont bakery.
The atmosphere comes across as informal, convenient, and neighborhood-friendly. Several reviewers mention stopping in at night, including around 10:30 or 11 PM, and appreciating that the food still tasted fresh. Hours also support different routines: Monday through Thursday run 10:30 AM to 9:30 PM, Friday stays open until midnight, Saturday runs from 8 AM to midnight, and Sunday runs 8 AM to 9:30 PM. That makes Cakes & Bakes useful for after-work snacks, weekend visits, and late-night Fremont cravings.
Service feedback is mixed, which is worth noting honestly. Many guests praise quick, friendly help and describe the team as responsive, especially for late orders or last-minute pani puri requests. One review mentions staff going the extra mile around 11 PM to arrange an order, which fits the practical, customer-focused side people appreciate. A few reviewers, however, report slower service or an order that did not meet expectations, including criticism of the pani flavor. The overall impression is generally positive, with room for consistency depending on timing and visit.
For local search users comparing bakeries, snack shops, and casual Indian street-food options in Fremont, CA, Cakes & Bakes is best framed as a convenient stop with a specific draw rather than a polished dining destination. It is a good fit for anyone nearby who wants pani puri, a fast snack, friendly counter service, and flexible hours near Walnut Avenue. If your craving is spicy, tangy, crisp, and fresh, this is a practical Fremont name to keep on your local list, especially when other choices feel too heavy.

Had pani puri here late at night and it was absolutely awesome! The puris were super crispy, the pani had the perfect balance of spicy and tangy flavors, and everything tasted really fresh. It’s the kind of place that satisfies your late-night street food cravings perfectly. Definitely a must-try if you love pani puri!
One of the best Pani puri I ever had. I dropped by at night around 10:30 pm for a quick bite and i couldn’t believe the tasty food here. It feels like home.
Amazing service from Cakes & Cakes! I placed a last-minute order for pani puri around 11 PM, and despite the late hour, they still managed to arrange everything for me. Really impressed with their dedication, responsiveness, and willingness to go the extra mile for customers. The pani puri was fresh, tasty, and exactly what I needed. Highly recommend Cakes & Cakes for both quality and exceptional customer service!
I don't usually write reviews, but this experience deserves to be shared. If you're looking for great Indian food, you might want to look elsewhere. The service started off slow, with the staff taking over 10 minutes just to take our order. The pani puri was very disappointing—the water was way too sour, and the chana inside was served cold. I had to ask multiple times just to get it warmed up. The hakka noodles had way too much vinegar, and the corn chaat was definitely lacking. On the plus side, once the order was placed, the food did arrive on time. The punugulu was actually one of the best I've had, perfectly complemented by a tasty peanut chutney. Otherwise, the whole place is just "meh."
