If you are looking for a casual, everyday Bakery stop in Oakland, CA, Cam Huong Bakery 錦香 is one of those places locals often mention for quick Vietnamese bites, especially in Chinatown. Located at 1088 Webster St, Oakland, this longtime-style shop is known less for polished presentation and more for the kind of practical, affordable food people come back for when they want something fast, filling, and familiar. Open daily from morning through late afternoon, it fits naturally into breakfast runs, lunch breaks, and easy takeout stops.
What stands out most at Cam Huong Bakery 錦香 is its banh mi. Multiple customers describe the sandwiches as the main reason to visit, with especially strong praise for the grilled pork banh mi. One reviewer even called the #7 the best grilled pork banh mi they had ever tasted, noting the distinct flavor from meat that is both baked and smoked. The bread also gets attention, with customers pointing out that it feels different from standard sandwich rolls and helps give the banh mi its signature bite. If you are deciding what to try first, the freshly made sandwiches appear to be the safest and most popular choice.
Beyond banh mi, this Oakland bakery also offers packaged small French breads, Asian baked goods, muffins, snacks, drinks, and refrigerated Vietnamese desserts. That variety makes it a convenient stop for people who want to grab more than one thing at a time, whether that means a sandwich for now and a sweet snack for later, or a few bakery items to bring home. Some visitors also mention donuts with a slightly sweet, nutty profile and sesame seeds that add a little extra character. The atmosphere sounds simple and functional, with just a couple of tables inside, but most people seem to treat it as a grab-and-go place rather than a sit-down cafe.
Reviews suggest that Cam Huong Bakery 錦香 is best for people who value flavor, convenience, and budget-friendly prices. Customers repeatedly mention how affordable the sandwiches are, which helps explain why it has become a go-to Vietnamese sandwich stop for some locals in Oakland, CA. At the same time, feedback is mixed on certain premade or baked items, with some reviewers saying those products did not seem as fresh as the sandwiches. Taken together, the clearest picture is a neighborhood Bakery where the fresh banh mi is the highlight, especially if you want a no-fuss, satisfying meal in Oakland.
For anyone exploring Vietnamese food in Oakland, CA, Cam Huong Bakery 錦香 is worth knowing about for its everyday appeal. It is not presented as a trendy destination, but as a practical local spot where the right order makes a difference. If you come for the freshly prepared sandwiches, especially the grilled pork banh mi, you will likely understand why many regulars keep it in their rotation. For solo lunches, quick takeout, and budget-conscious bites in Chinatown, this bakery has a clear place in the local mix.

Sign in to reviewI had the best grilled pork banh mi of my life (#7). They bake AND smoke the meat which results in a distinct, signature flavor. They also get their bread custom made. As for the donut: Nothing inside, but nutty and slightly sweet. Sesame seeds make a difference! I can’t wait to come back to try the lemongrass tofu banh mi as I’ve heard that the owner is vegetarian and this is her special order. The chicken noodle soup is also supposed to be amazing. Lastly, I want to support this business because the owner has a kind heart. She has a contract with the state of California to supply the prisons with her food. The prisoners apparently (and as one would guess) get pretty blah food.
Great banh mi sandwiches and ridiculously good prices. Confirming some of the premade things didn't look fresh or great, but the main offerings are delicious.
This is my go-to place to get Vietnamese sandwiches in Oakland Chinatown. Besides Banh Mi sandwiches, it offers packaged small French breads, Asian baked goods, snacks, big muffins, and drinks and Vietnamese desserts in the fridge. Although there are a couple of tables inside, people usually come here for takeouts. I ordered my favorite, grilled pork sandwich with extra meat, which had a good amount of fillings and the bread was toasted and crunchy on the outside.
I echo the previous review about this place selling stale items. The baked pork bun that I got seemed like a few days old. It was hard as rock and tasted bad. The mooncake seemed like a month old as well. It was bad! Wasted my money. Don’t patronize this place until they get their shit together.
So cheap and tasty! Seriously, it’s like $3.50 for a whole sammie. Makes me want to crammie them in my pajammies and do a double whammy. Get two and you’ll be full of bread and meat happiness. The baked goods were a bit dry though, so stick with the freshly made sandwiches if you can resist!
