CHICHA San Chen 吃茶三千 is a bubble tea store at 400 Newbury St #300 in Boston, MA, offering tea-focused drinks and bubble tea in a calm cafe setting. Customer reviews often call out the pronounced tea flavor and the care put into each drink, making this a place to consider if you want your tea to taste like more than a sweet, generic base. The shop’s Boston location and daily hours make it a convenient option for a drink during a day out or a regular tea stop. It is open every day of the week from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Tea is the main draw here. Reviewers describe the tea as authentic and high quality, with a stronger, more noticeable flavor than they have found at some other bubble tea spots. One customer specifically mentions the Dong Ding oolong tea latte, while another recommends trying an unsweetened tea to appreciate its flavor. If you usually order drinks very sweet, a less-sweet or unsweetened option may be a useful way to explore the tea itself. The menu also includes milk tea combinations: reviewers mention black tea with oat milk and taro, as well as green tea with taro balls. Oat milk is available, though one customer notes it can only be selected with certain teas.

For bubble tea fans, the shop offers different toppings and textures. Reviews refer to boba, taro balls, and “bubble balls,” and opinions about sweetness and size vary. Some customers praise the boba as well seasoned, while another found it sweeter and larger than they personally prefer. That range of experiences is a reminder that taste is individual; if you have a preference about sweetness or toppings, take a moment to review the drink options when ordering. Customers also mention self-service ordering kiosks, which can make placing an order straightforward, and small details such as drink carriers that add a thoughtful touch.

The interior is described by customers as calm, with neutral colors, making CHICHA San Chen a suitable choice for a relaxed drink break, a solo tea stop, or a casual visit with a friend. The customer experience is not identical for everyone: some reviews report fast service, while one describes a long wait and a sold-out topping. If you are ordering a drink with a particular topping, checking its availability may help set expectations. The business has a 4.7 rating from 625 reviews, reflecting a strong overall customer response alongside individual differences in taste and service. For Boston visitors and locals looking for a tea-forward bubble tea store, CHICHA San Chen offers a range of tea flavors, milk options, and toppings at its Newbury Street address.

Fast service! Easy to order kiosks. Ordered two drinks off the menu, the tea flavor is very strong and prevalent. You can tell it’s high quality versus other spots where the taste is more watered down or generic. That being said, I’m not used to that so I got the dong ding oolong tea latte, which is strong for me! Happy I tried it but would prefer to try something else. Now the passion fruit green tea though was perfectly balanced, tailored the sweetness so was well balanced, the bobas were fresh and chewy. Super clean inside, decent amount of space. Parking doesn’t look great by there but I walked and didn’t look tooo closely. Will be back when they have their tea tasting open!

Since their opening, I have been a regular customer. The reason? Authentic and high quality tea, perfectly seasoned boba. A lot of bubble tea places in Boston use lower quality and artificially scented tea. But not in Chicha San Chen. Try ordering an unsweetened tea here next time, you could taste the lingering sweetness not from the sugar, but from the good tea itself. Really good customer service too! Super recommended. The best in Boston!!

I ordered a green tea with taro balls, but it took almost an hour for my order to be ready. After the estimated pickup time had passed, I asked the staff if my order was ready, and they simply told me it wasn’t. I waited for another hour, only to be told that the taro balls were sold out and asked if I wanted to substitute something else. The service was extremely poor, and I was not informed about the issue until after waiting for nearly two hours. Because of the long delay, the ice in my other drink had completely melted, which significantly changed the taste.

Good calm energy type of cafe. Nice neutral colors. Use the kiosk to order. They DO offer oat milk (only). But you have to select certain teas to switch the milk. I got a black tea with oat milk and taro. I did mean to get the black balls which they call it the bubble balls here. But I liked it just as much. It’s a good tea. I even enjoy the little cup handle they come with. Wish they had bigger sizes because mine is small and worth $10.

Not quite worth the hype for me. That said, I really like the interior, the staff, and the attention to detail — especially the cute little carriers. I know many people like Chicha San Chen, but it’s just not my favorite boba chain. The boba is a bit too sweet and too large for my taste, and the prices feel slightly on the high side.
