Doughweime Bakery & Café is a Vietnamese-owned Bakery in Union City, CA, known for creative malasadas, soft nama donuts, flaky pastries, and good coffee served in a warm neighborhood café setting. Located at 31858 Alvarado Blvd, Union City, CA 94587, it has become a notable stop for Bay Area pastry lovers who want something more distinctive than a standard bakery case. With a 4.7-star rating from 199 reviews, the shop earns repeat visits through freshness, thoughtful flavors, and kind service rather than flashy claims.

The signature draw is the malasada: tender dough, light cream, and rotating flavors that customers describe as unique, balanced, and not overly sweet. Favorites mentioned by guests include s’mores, black sesame, and ube, giving the menu a playful mix of familiar comfort and Asian-inspired flavor profiles. The bakery also receives praise for croissants and nama donuts, especially the nama donuts’ soft, fluffy, slightly chewy texture that one customer compared to a “mochi cloud.” For anyone searching for malasadas in Union City or a creative bakery in the East Bay, this is the kind of place worth planning around.

What makes Doughweime Bakery & Café stand out is its focus on texture and balance. Reviewers regularly point out that the fillings feel light, the dough is soft, and the pastries taste fresh without becoming too sugary. The coffee is also a real part of the experience, not an afterthought, making the café a strong choice for a morning treat, a weekend pastry run, or a casual stop with a friend or partner. The atmosphere comes across as friendly and personal, supported by service that guests call wonderful and kind.

Because the flavors rotate and popular items can sell out, it is smart to visit early, especially on weekends. Current hours are Thursday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with the bakery closed Monday through Wednesday. Prices may feel on the premium side for some customers, particularly for specialty malasadas, but many reviews frame the visit as worth making a trip for the quality and creativity.

For locals in Union City, nearby Fremont, Hayward, and the wider Bay Area, Doughweime Bakery & Café is a strong fit for people who enjoy small-batch pastries, rotating flavors, and café stops that feel intentional. It is especially good for malasada fans, ube and black sesame lovers, coffee-and-pastry dates, and anyone looking for a Vietnamese-owned bakery with a fresh, modern approach. If your priority is a soft, filled pastry with flavor that feels both fun and carefully made, this Bakery on Alvarado Boulevard belongs on your list.

Best malasada in town with very unique flavors. The dough is soft and the cream is light, but the price is pretty steep with each one being $6.50+. Good thing I love far from them because otherwise my wallet will be hurting. With a all the unique flavors, itsy hard not to try more than one. I do love that they have the option of mini malasadas so you can eat even more without being too filled from each one. Everytime I go, there's always something new so it's a nice surprise each visit.

Doughweime has some incredible malasadas as well as other pastries like crossaints! They're always showcasing unique flavors, many of which my partner and I tried and enjoyed. The s'mores, black sesame, and ube malasadas were some of our favorites! Highly recommend checking them out 🙌🏼

Arguably one of the best bakeries in the bay! High quality ingredients and very creative donut flavors, it’s worth making a trip just to stop by here. The coffee is good too! I’ve been to a few cafes that either have good food or good drinks, you don’t have to worry about that here

This place has it all! Wonderful, kind service. AMAZING malasadas with rotating, creative flavors. Seriously, everything is always so well balanced, fresh, and not too sweet. I could go on and on about how much I love the baked goods here. My only tip is to go early (especially on the weekends) if there are specific flavors you want.

Nama donuts are yummy! They're uniquely soft, fluffy and chewy, think mochi cloud consistency. Have to try!
