Among the treats customers call out, the almond croissant is a standout. One reviewer describes its laminated pastry as crisp and buttery, with delicate layers that break apart before giving way to a tender center. Sticky buns also attract attention, especially for their pecans and rich flavor. For dessert, reviewers mention Boston cream pie, whose light texture and balanced sweetness made a good impression, along with a fresh chocolate slice and a soft cinnamon cookie. These are customer favorites rather than a complete menu, so availability may vary. The appeal is in having both pastry and dessert options for a quick indulgence or a slower café visit.
Flour is not only for sweets. Reviews mention quiche, avocado toast, BLT sandwiches, and grilled bread, making it a useful choice when you want a light meal as well as a bakery treat. The menu is described as simple, with enough options for a modest lunch or for keeping room for dessert. Guests have also picked up quiche to take along, suggesting the café can work for both a sit-down stop and food on the go. The atmosphere has practical flexibility: reviewers describe two floors and outdoor seating, and say it can feel spacious even when the café is busy. Seating during the lunch rush may be limited, so plan accordingly.
The Cambridge Street location is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those early weekday hours make Flour a convenient option for a morning pastry or café stop, while weekend hours suit a later breakfast, lunch, or dessert break. It is a good fit for locals, visitors exploring Boston, and anyone who wants a casual place to enjoy baked goods alongside a simple meal. If you are choosing what to try, customer reviews point to the almond croissant, sticky bun, Boston cream pie, quiche, and sandwiches as worthwhile starting points. I have to admit I got really lucky to find a seat during the lunch rush. The place has two floors and outdoor seating, so even though it isn't huge, it feels spacious. The menu is simple and offers just the right options for a "light" meal—or for saving room for dessert, so you can enjoy one of their delicious sweet treats and pastries (I’m still thinking about their lemon olive oil cake; you have to try it!). If you're looking for fast, friendly service, give this place a try.
In a city crowded with cafes, this local Boston bakery chain stands as a masterclass in the morning ritual. The undisputed star is the almond croissant—a triumph of laminated dough that shatters into buttery shards before yielding to a …
Flour Bakery + Cafe has quite many outlets in Boston. Sat down for a quick dessert of their Boston creme pie and Sticky bun. Texture of the Boston creme pie is light and sweetness just right. Sticky bun has a lot of pecans, flavoring is good but just a tiny bit sweeter than what I would have preferred. Their line and orders come quick even during peak lunch hour. Credit goes to the efficiency of their kitchen staff.
Wow. Never liked quiche before until having it here. I really like the grilled Bread on my avocado toast and on my BLT. We came back for second time to buy more Quiche to take on the boat trip.
Came in on a hot Sunday for some ice and a treat. Toddler cried for cake, which they didnt sell by the slice so he opted for the chocolate slice. It was fresh and delicious. I got a cookie, perhaps snickerdoodle? I cant recall but it had cinnamon in it and it was delicious as well. Nice and soft and not overly sweet. Customer service was great... I was given a cup of ice for my toddlers juice cup that had warmed from the walk in the sun. Water was refreshing, as it should be, I was parched. We sat in the corner by the bar tip. My son needed to use the bathroom and we took the elevator up, the second floor is a whole different vibe and atmosphere. My toddler has autism and is loud. I felt so uncomfortable going past people quietly working as we got bad looks for many and even a shhhh from a gentleman using a laptop reading. I cannot always calm my son immediately or quiet him down, he doesnt understand due to his age and disability, so the awkward stares were truly unnecessary for the 3 minutes we used the restroom. I felt unwelcome on that second floor. I wouldnt consider that as family friendly but nothing mentioned it was a quiet area either. I guess it is an unspoken rule there? While service and staff were friendly, accommodating, and gave lots of smiles and even engaged with my son who was sad about cake, not sure id feel comfortable bringing him back as the customers made me feel I shouldn't have been up on that second floor. I didnt expect the amount of people, quietly sitting, when that elevator door opened and my child was crying. Id get treats again, but not be inside to enjoy. It should have felt welcoming and thats not on the establishment part, they did no wrong, they were opposite of their patrons upstairs. If I had not gone up to use the restroom, id have rated it better. Staff was cleaning too so it was not dirty inside!
