Hat Yai Belmont is a Thai restaurant at 605 SE Belmont St in Portland, OR, serving flavorful meals in a casual, order-at-the-counter setting. It’s a welcoming stop for a first visit as well as a shared meal with a companion: customers describe a helpful, patient cashier who took time to explain the menu, and ordering is handled at the register. The restaurant has a 4.6 rating from 991 reviews, giving visitors a useful snapshot of other diners’ experiences while they decide where to eat in Portland.

A frequently mentioned choice is the Hat Yai for two, a generous-feeling meal that lets diners enjoy several parts of the menu together. Reviews praise the fried chicken for its crisp exterior and tender interior, and describe the curry as creamy and delicious. The curry is not necessarily spicy, according to one diner, so guests looking for heat may want to ask about spice options rather than assume. Some meals come with pickled vegetables and jalapeños, adding tang and a brighter, sharper contrast to the richer flavors.

There are other dishes to consider when planning a meal. Reviewers mention Chinese broccoli and mushroom skewers, along with a small side of sauce that one guest enjoyed enough to finish quickly. For dessert, passion fruit roti is another reported favorite. These customer notes offer a practical way to explore the menu, whether you’re drawn to crispy chicken, a comforting curry, vegetables, skewers, or something sweet at the end. Experiences with individual dishes vary, and one reviewer wished for more curry choices, including chicken.

The feel is relaxed and straightforward, with quick service reported by guests who visited near opening time. Seating is described by one diner as hard and not especially comfortable, a detail worth keeping in mind if a soft, lounge-like dining room is important to you. Hat Yai Belmont may suit people who appreciate bold, satisfying Thai flavors and an easy ordering process, including first-time visitors who would like help choosing. The Hat Yai for two also makes sharing a natural option for a pair.

Hat Yai Belmont lists daily hours of 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday. Since the provided hours cover the midday service window, check current details before planning a visit outside those times. Its SE Belmont Street location makes the address easy to use when searching for a Thai restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Whether you’re stopping in for lunch, trying the chicken and curry, or sharing a meal with someone, customer feedback points to a menu with memorable flavors and a friendly, helpful ordering experience.

This restaurant is popular for the Saturday evening meal. Pickled veggies and jalapenos are served with many of the dishes. The cashier was helpful and patient as the explained theenue options to me on my first visit. The seating was hard and uncomfortable. The food portion of the lamb curry that I received seemed small for the price I paid. I enjoyed the flavors of my meal. The food was presented on an aluminum tray with food on plates. The silver ware, napkins, hand wipes and take home boxes where available at a self serve station in the entryway. This seemed odd to me. The restaurant was clean and well lit. The kitchen was mostly open to view the food prep. I would like to try other menus items. I recommend you give this restaurant a try.

Yummy, yummy…yummy! We got the Hot Yai for 2 and it was the perfect amount of food. The curry is creamy delicious, not spicy. The fried chicken is cooked to perfection- the small side of sauce- I don’t know what that is, but the container was emptied quickly. Haha. Easy order at the cashier and they give you a number. We went on Sunday, Mother’s Day at 1:30pm ish and were still able to find seating. Chill atmosphere overall too with both seating inside and outside.

Drinks and food came out fast and were delicious! We decided to stop by right at open, so not sure how fast food comes out when they’re at full capacity. We tried the Hat Yai for 2, Chinese broccoli and mango horchata mocktail and cocktail. We didn’t love the curry as much because it’s more on the sweeter side with more cinnamon than we prefer, but everything else was good! The Chinese broccoli was definitely a last minute decision and we are glad we gave it a shot because it was yummy. Dip or mix your rice in the sauce! So good!!

Wow! The chicken was tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. The flavors were amazing. We got the 2 person meal with chicken and mushroom skewers. For dessert we got the passion fruit roti. So good! We already started eating before we remembered to take pictures so know the original presentation was much better!
