Hong Kun is listed on FindALoco in San Francisco, CA with address, phone, hours, and map location. Common services and related keywords include Chinese Medicine Store.

Located on Noriega Street, Hong Kun is a trusted Chinese medicine store serving San Francisco, CA with a practical, neighborhood feel. For people looking for traditional Chinese herbs, tea ingredients, and everyday wellness staples, this shop stands out for its broad selection and approachable service. Customers often describe the staff as friendly and helpful, especially when language differences could otherwise make shopping more difficult. That kind of experience matters in a specialty store, where people may arrive with a specific herb in mind, a family recommendation, or a practitioner’s prescription and want clear, respectful assistance.

One detail that comes up again and again is variety. Shoppers mention that Hong Kun carries a large amount of Chinese herbs, with more options than they have seen at many other herb shops. The store is also noted for reasonable pricing, making it a practical stop for regular purchases as well as first-time visits. Reviewers specifically mention buying prescribed Chinese herbs here, including herbs for an elderly cat recommended by a veterinarian, which speaks to the store’s ability to provide particular items customers may not easily find elsewhere. Others stop in for products like yellow chrysanthemum tea, showing that the selection can appeal to both focused herb buyers and people browsing for traditional teas and pantry essentials.

The atmosphere seems to be part of the appeal. Visitors talk about the wonderful herbal aroma and the sense of discovery that comes with stepping into a well-stocked traditional shop. If you have never visited a Chinese herb store before, Hong Kun offers the kind of sensory experience that feels rooted in long-standing herbal culture while still being accessible to the local community in San Francisco. It is a useful place for shoppers who already know what they need, but also for neighbors who are curious and want to explore a store with a deep inventory and a distinctly old-world character.

As with many busy specialty businesses, experiences can vary, and one review reflects a less welcoming interaction. Even so, the overall rating of 4.4 from 14 reviews points to many positive visits, with multiple customers saying they return because the prices are fair, the selection is strong, and the service is kind. One reviewer even noted driving past closer herb stores to shop here because the value was worth it. That kind of loyalty says a lot.

For locals searching for a Chinese medicine store in San Francisco, CA, Hong Kun is a solid option for Chinese herbs, traditional tea ingredients, and specialty wellness items. With daily hours throughout the week and a convenient Sunset District address at 2558 Noriega St, it fits easily into neighborhood routines. Whether you are picking up a specific herb, restocking favorites, or simply exploring a traditional herbal shop with ample variety and fair prices, Hong Kun remains a dependable place to know in San Francisco.

They were friendly and helpful which I appreciate because I don't speak the dialect. They had everything I was looking for. This will be my new go-to herbs shop.

I buy Chinese herbs prescribed by my vet for my elderly cat here. The herbs work great and are very affordable here, and the people running the store are also super nice. I actually drive past several other Chinese herb stores that would be closer and more convenient for me because of the good prices and friendly service here. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for Chinese herbs!

I tried purchasing some yellow chrysanthemum tea from Hong Kun, based off a recommendation from a neighbor, but the shop attendant didn't want my business. I do not speak Chinese: When I entered the shop, the attendant did not look up from her phone, and when I "interrupted" her, she did not want to speak to me and literally waved me off. I looked at the shelves to see if I could find what I was looking for and she continued to completely ignore me. I went to J & Food Ginseng Co. at Irving and 25th and they were willing to sell the tea to me.
