Huong Sandwiches | Vietnamese • Banh Mi is a straightforward, beloved Vietnamese restaurant in Union City, CA, serving the kind of banh mi locals keep in their regular lunch rotation. Located at 32124 Alvarado Blvd, Union City, CA 94587, this spot is known for fast, takeout-friendly service, freshly toasted French baguettes, and sandwiches built with crisp pickled carrots and daikon. With a 4.5-star rating from 246 reviews, it has earned a steady following among people looking for a reliable Vietnamese sandwich shop in the East Bay.
The menu centers on banh mi, with customer favorites like dac biet, grilled pork, and lemongrass tofu. The lemongrass tofu sandwich stands out for its bright, fragrant flavor, while the grilled pork and special combination options offer the savory, satisfying bite many people expect from a classic Vietnamese deli sandwich. Reviewers often mention generous sandwich size, good texture from the toasted baguette, and fresh vegetables that keep each bite balanced rather than heavy.
Beyond sandwiches, Huong Sandwiches also offers quick Vietnamese deli-style choices that make it useful for lunch, snacks, or an easy take-home meal. Customers mention fresh spring rolls, shrimp spring rolls, egg rolls, noodles, sesame balls with mung bean, desserts, yogurt, drinks, and other hot foods from a steam table. That variety makes the restaurant a practical stop for families, coworkers grabbing lunch, or anyone who wants more than one item to share.
The atmosphere is simple and no-frills, with an emphasis on speed, value, and convenience rather than a sit-down dining experience. Several customers describe it as a great takeout-only place, and lunch hours can bring longer waits because orders move quickly through a busy counter. Service may feel rushed when the line is moving, but the appeal is clear: this is a local banh mi shop focused on getting fresh, familiar Vietnamese food into your hands without extra fuss.
For anyone searching for Vietnamese restaurant options in Union City, California, Huong Sandwiches is especially good for quick lunches, banh mi cravings, casual takeout, and group orders where spring rolls, egg rolls, desserts, and drinks round out the meal. The shop is generally open 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM most days and closed on Wednesdays, so it is worth planning around the schedule before stopping by. If your idea of comfort food is a warm baguette, pickled vegetables, and a flavorful filling, this is the kind of local address worth remembering.

Sign in to reviewThe first time I tried the lemongrass tofu sandwich at Huong’s Sandwiches, it honestly reset my standards for what a sandwich can be. I haven’t even been there that many times, but that one bite was enough to stick with me. The tofu is perfectly infused with lemongrass—bright, fragrant, and comforting all at once—balanced in a way that feels thoughtful, not overpowering. It’s the kind of flavor that doesn’t shout, but gently reminds you how good simple food can be when it’s made with care. As a vegetarian option, it doesn’t feel like an afterthought at all; it feels intentional, complete, and genuinely heavenly. What makes Huong’s even better is how easy and welcoming it is. There’s basically zero wait, which somehow makes the experience feel calmer, like the universe is briefly on your side. For around ten dollars, you get something that tastes far more special than its price tag suggests. It’s the kind of place you can just drop by—no planning, no stress—and walk out with a sandwich that feels like a small win for your day. In a world where good food often comes with long lines or high prices, Huong’s feels refreshingly kind. Eating that lemongrass tofu sandwich makes me feel ready for whatever comes next. It’s grounding and energizing at the same time, like a quiet moment of joy before the day unfolds. There’s something hopeful about knowing a place like this exists—somewhere that delivers warmth, flavor, and comfort so effortlessly. Huong’s Sandwiches isn’t just the best lemongrass tofu I’ve ever had; it’s a reminder that little routines, good food, and simple pleasures can carry us forward, one really good sandwich at a time.
They haven’t really change up the place the last time I came here besides the menu, which they try to make it more aesthetic. However, it didn’t match the atmosphere of the place since it’s still too simple. They do make sandwiches fast, but the issue is that they have to rush the service. The cashier was trying to take my order and serve the lady food at the same time, which is quite awkward. I suggest having another employee to take care of either role. Otherwise, the sandwiches are good though, but I wanted to get the BBQ chicken but they’re out of it sadly.
This is one of my favorite places to get Banh mi’s! I usually get the Dac biet #6 or grilled pork #9 and an order of the fresh spring rolls. Sandwiches are a good size and come loaded with fresh pickled carrots and daikon. French baguette is freshly toasted. They also have an assortment of deli food as well such as noodles, fried rice , chicken and also to go plates such as vermicelli with pork, summer rolls, sticky rice with Chinese sausage(if avail). Bring cash or you can also Zelle the owner.
Great take out only place for Banh Mi, shrimp spring rolls, and egg rolls. Longer waits at lunch time and closed on Wednesdays. Cash only but they do take Zelle.
