Kainan Sa Laguna

We've been coming to Kainan for years and it's always been our favorite Filipino restaurant for the value and the flavors. The old couple that used to be there were always so friendly and helpful when ordering. They sold the restaurant last year to a younger couple who modernized the restaurant while keeping some of the same flavors. However, we were surprised to see new ownership on our most recent visit. We decided to give it a shot and had a pretty disappointing experience. We came at 5:30pm and pretty much all the food was sold out already. We usually get pork adobo, beef caldereta, chayote, lumpia Shanghai, and pinakbet but they either were sold out or didn't offer any of it. More than half the items they had were sold out which is pretty bad. How does a Filipino restaurant run out of pork adobo! With that said we still ordered food hoping for the best but it wasn't up to previous standards. The tocino only had a few pieces of meat and the garlic rice was very mushy with no garlic flavor at all. The lechon kawali seemed fresh but the fried skin had a mushy texture. Pork sinigang wasn't bad but seemed to be missing some depth to the soup. They wouldn't let us order the sinigang as an entree combo item, which we've always done, so we had to order a whole big bowl of it. The guy explaining things also didn't have the best attitude and seemed flustered while prepping the rice and food to send out. Food took a long time to come out as well. Plus, they have this weird air freshener blowing some strong incense smell that was pretty overpowering. Just overall disappointed with the changes and overall vibe of the restaurant and probably won't come back for the unforeseeable future.

I've been going to Kainan sa Laguna for years, and it never disappoints. They have new owners. Their BBQ is my absolute favorite—it has a perfectly balanced marinade that brings out the right savory flavors, just like back home. The meat is tender, making every bite satisfying. The lechon is another standout—flavorful, crispy, and absolutely delicious. I also love their sisig! I had it to-go last time, but I can’t wait to try it dine-in so I can enjoy it sizzling hot on a plate. Their menu is packed with classic Filipino favorites, including tocilog, tapsilog, dinuguan, adobo, pinakbet, kare-kare, and tinola. I haven’t tried them all yet, but can't wait to. For dessert, my daughter’s favorite is their puto—soft and good. They also offer a variety of traditional Filipino sweets that are worth checking out. If you’re craving authentic Filipino food, Kainan is a must-visit. Whether you're in the mood for comforting home-cooked meals or delicious grilled dishes, this place delivers.

New management!!!! They only took over for not even a year, so all this nasty comments here are definitely for the previous owners! With the new owners, food all tasted like home. Very authentic. Owners and kids are all warm and friendly. Food are priced very fairly. Generous servings too. I Highly recommend any veggie dish they make. Homemade tocino is tender and tasted authentic. Well, they make the best kare kare, pancit, and lumpiang shanghai too in the whole of Texas. Their tortang dilis is to die for that I wish it’s a regular on their menu. Their kakanin is a must, quality at its best. I’m a one picky person when it comes to food but this place is more than just a 5star. I’d like to mention also that the restaurant is very clean as well.

My son and I came for lunch yesterday to try out the "Sisig tacos". They did not dissapoint. We initially ordered 6 tacos (street taco size). But then had to order 5 more. They hit the spot! We will have to bring back more family members with us. Looking forward to coming back. Delectable!
