Khao Moo Dang - Thai Street Food is a Thai restaurant on SE Hawthorne Boulevard in Portland, Oregon, serving Thai street-food-inspired dishes with a clear focus on pork, noodles, and richly flavored broths. At 3145 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97214, it’s a local dining option for people exploring the Hawthorne area as well as visitors looking for a memorable meal while in town. The restaurant has a 4.6-star rating from 1,118 reviews, and customer comments often call out the distinctive flavors and carefully prepared pork.

The name points to a signature choice: Khao Moo-Dang, a dish that reviewers describe with pork, Chinese sausage, sauce, and crispy pork among its components. One diner who was initially hesitant about pork said the food changed their mind, especially the pork belly. Another reviewer found the sauce generous and the overall flavor lighter than expected. These firsthand impressions suggest a menu that may appeal to guests who enjoy exploring different textures and preparations, though diners who prefer to avoid pork should note that a reviewer found pork in every dish they tried.

Noodle dishes are another reason customers visit. Reviews highlight Ba-Mhee Tom-Yum Naam, a flavorful soup with a modest spicy kick, and a house curry noodle dish. One customer also praised a bowl made with bone broth, dumplings filled with pork, yu choy, egg, and 12-hour-braised pork shoulder, describing the shoulder as especially tender and satisfying. Spice levels and preferences vary, so guests who are sensitive to heat may want to ask about a dish before ordering. The range described by diners makes Khao Moo Dang a fitting stop for noodle-soup fans and anyone curious about Thai street-food flavors.

The atmosphere and experience come through most clearly in the food-focused reviews: customers describe visiting with a spouse, trying several dishes together, and returning during a Portland trip. That makes the restaurant suitable for a casual meal with a companion, a small group sharing different menu choices, or a visitor seeking a distinctive local dining stop. Khao Moo Dang is open daily from 11:00 a.m.; it closes at 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Sunday, and at 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Its Hawthorne location, well-reviewed pork dishes, and flavorful noodle soups offer a concrete reason to add this Portland Thai restaurant to a meal plan.

There are not adequate words to describe how brilliant this food is! I was disappointed when we got there and I saw that every dish contained pork, which isn't a meat I normally order. I normally dislike pork belly especially. I have been deeply converted now! We went here twice during our Portland stay and I got a #7 dry both times and it was incredible both times. The spice level was perfect. I tried the rice bowl and it was almost as good. I just preferred the noodles. If I lived closer, I would eat here all the time! The service was wonderful, especially for how busy it stayed. I loved this food!

I am so sad that I am from out of town so I won't be able to eat Khao Moo Dang again. The 7.2 Ba-Mhee Tom-Yum Naam was the star of our meal. Soup was very flavorful and had a small spicy kick (beware if you can't handle spice). The 8. House Curry Noodle was also good but not our favorite since it was too sweet forward for our liking. It was the best khao soi we've ever had though. The crispy pork belly topping that is included in both items was the best crispy pork belly we've had from Thai restaurant. It looks like it can be dry but it's actually soft moist flavorful and freshly crispy. Other places they make it too dry or too hard, or the skin is stale/hard. Lastly $3 Cha-Yen you can't beat the value of this. It actually had such good tea flavor and not overly sweet or weak like a lot of other restaurants. We liked it so much we bought more to go to enjoy during the rest of our trip.

Tried a mix of dishes here and had a pretty balanced experience overall. Khao Moo-Dang was interesting. The sauce covered most of the dish, which made it feel a bit heavy, though the flavor itself was actually light and paired well with everything. The Chinese sausage was solid, and the crispy pork belly was good, just could’ve used a bit more of it. Ba Mhee Tom Kha was a standout. The broth was rich and flavorful, with a good amount of meat and noodles. If you’ve had Mama noodles before, it has a similar comforting taste. Definitely something I’d order again. The steamed dumplings worked well as a shared plate. They were good, but could’ve used a little more filling. The sauce on its own was a bit underwhelming, but adding soy sauce and chili oil helped bring it together. For drinks, the lychee hibiscus juice was refreshing and felt worth the price - light, fresh, and easy to drink. The Thai iced tea also hit the mark, with a good balance of flavor and portion size. Space itself was clean with both indoor and outdoor seating available. Ambience indoor is causal. Food came out quickly, and while the menu has pictures, the dishes don’t particularly look the same. It’s a bus-your-own-table setup, but overall the experience felt efficient and straightforward.

We spent the weekend at Seaside and came back to Seattle via PDX - intent on eating something delicious. We made our first stop at a truck pod , and on local recommendation , drove to …

I’ll start off by saying I’m generally not a big noodle soup fan except for Pho and a quality ramen. My wife loved her #10 with bone broth, two dumplings stuffed with pork, yu choy, egg and delicious 12-hour braised pork shoulder. I preferred her meal to mine as the pork shoulder was excellent- perfectly seasoned (5 spice?) and so tender. But it is quite a salty/oily broth. I got the #12 tom kha broth with sliced pork tenderloin (??!), pork belly, egg and yu choy (my favorite part = green thin vegetable soaked in the coconut broth). It was way too salty and I like me some salt. I couldn’t eat more than a 1/3 of the broth and didn’t really care for the hard to chew pork tenderloin- which seemed more like Chinese red pork char siu. The pork belly had a nice crispy top which was a good texture compared to the overly soft egg noodles which were falling apart, unfortunately. I can see that plenty of folks would like this place but… Friendly staff.
