Kimthao's Bakery and Food to Go is a neighborhood bakery at 2050 N Alma School Rd in Chandler, AZ, serving customers looking for Vietnamese food, baked goods, and convenient prepared dishes. Local reviews describe a place with a strong connection to the Vietnamese community, as well as a welcoming stop for people who are new to Vietnamese flavors. The menu offers recognizable favorites alongside dishes that may be less familiar, making it a practical choice for a quick meal or an opportunity to try something different. Its location in Chandler makes it a useful option for nearby residents and visitors seeking Vietnamese bakery and takeaway food in the area.
Banh mi is one of the items customers mention most. Reviewers call out the roast pork banh mi and the No. 15 sandwich, described as a classic combination with pâté and cold cuts. One customer praised the bread for being soft and crisp, a detail that can make a banh mi especially satisfying. The shop also offers ban gio, and reviews mention Vietnamese rice dishes and a hot food bar with a range of prepared options. For first-time visitors, these dishes offer a starting point for exploring the menu; for regulars, they provide familiar choices to take along for lunch or a casual meal.
Other customer favorites include banh cuon and banh beo, while a review also mentions sticky rice and citronella tea made with fresh sugar cane. These specific experiences are not universal: customer feedback varies, and one reviewer felt that the texture and freshness of certain rice-paper dishes had declined. That kind of mixed feedback is worth keeping in mind when deciding what to order. Staff interactions have also been described differently by different guests. One first-time visitor appreciated receiving friendly help and suggestions, while another reported difficulty communicating about an unfamiliar ingredient. Asking staff about ingredients or preparation can help make ordering easier, especially if you are trying a dish for the first time.
The atmosphere seems suited to a casual visit focused on food rather than a formal dining occasion. A hot food counter and ready-to-go choices can work well for an uncomplicated lunch, a quick stop on an errand, or picking up Vietnamese specialties to enjoy elsewhere. The business is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; it is closed Wednesday and open Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. With a 4.3 rating from 191 reviews, Kimthao's Bakery and Food to Go gives Chandler diners a local place to explore banh mi, Vietnamese bakery items, and prepared foods, while individual experiences may differ by dish and visit.

This place is amazing. It's definitely a favorite among the local Vietnamese community. I was the only person in here over the lunch rush who didn't speak Vietnamese. That's a good sign. I got the #15 sandwich, your standard banh mi with the pâté and cold cuts, and a ban gio. I'd never had the banh gio before but now I need them in my life more often. So good! Come check this place out.
Food has really gone down hill at this place. I usually come and get banh cuon or banh beo and it is just not good at all anymore. I gave it a few more times and I just had enough. The rice papers aren’t light and fluffy, they are too thick and seem to be out for too long as the rice papers are hard on the edges. Most of the food being put out to grab and go taste a few days old and it’s just not fresh anymore. So sad because it’s one of the few Vietnamese bakeries we have and did enjoy.
First time visiting Kim Thao’s Bakery and Foods with my son. Really cool place with a hot food bar and lots of tasty options. We tried the citronella tea with fresh sugar cane – perfect flavor, not too sweet. The lady was super friendly and helpful, answered my questions and suggested some great dishes. They also offer egg roll trays and catering, which is nice. We’ll be back!
Im here for the roast pork BanhMi. The banhmi bread is top notch, soft and crispy👌👌 …
Unfortunately, I had a bit of a communication challenge with the staff. When I asked about a brown ingredient in the sticky rice, the guy said "I don't know" and suggested it might only appeal to Vietnamese people. Hmm ok...I'll try it. …
