Located at 393 7th Ave in the Inner Richmond area, this neighborhood spot is known for Hong Kong-style sweets and casual comfort food that make it easy to stop in after dinner, meet friends, or satisfy a late-night craving. With a 4.3 rating from 521 reviews, it has built a reputation as a place where people can expect quick seating, fast service, and desserts that feel both familiar and satisfying.

What stands out most at Kowloon Tong Dessert Cafe is the balance in its menu. Guests often mention the mango sago for its fresh fruit, chewy texture, and sweetness that does not go overboard. That kind of detail matters for diners who want dessert that feels refreshing rather than heavy. Other items mentioned by customers include mango desserts, waffles, hot sesame soup, almond soup, and glutinous rice balls with sesame or peanut filling. Reviews also point to savory snacks like fish balls, fried chicken wings, sandwiches, fries, and salted egg yolk fries, making this more than a sweets-only destination. It is a practical choice when a group cannot decide between dessert and a light meal.

The atmosphere seems to be part of the appeal as well. Customers describe the cafe as clean, friendly, and efficient, with desserts arriving quickly even when the space is busy. For groups, that speed can make a real difference, and reviewers note that even parties of seven were seated without much delay. Portion sizes are often described as good for sharing, especially if you are stopping by for after-dinner dessert rather than a full meal. Street parking is available, and the location is worth knowing if you are exploring the Richmond District and want something sweet nearby.

Another reason people remember Kowloon Tong Dessert Cafe is the distinct Hong Kong cafe feeling. One review specifically mentions being transported back to the Hong Kong of the 1970s and 1980s, which gives this San Francisco dessert cafe a sense of nostalgia beyond the food itself. That makes it appealing not only to longtime fans of Cantonese desserts, but also to newer visitors curious about classic HK-style sweet soups, fruit desserts, and snack plates served in an approachable setting. The availability of Wi-Fi and the mention of late-night appeal add to its usefulness as a casual hangout.

For locals and visitors searching for a reliable dessert restaurant in San Francisco, Kowloon Tong Dessert Cafe offers a straightforward mix of fresh fruit desserts, classic Hong Kong-style sweets, savory bites, and fast, friendly service. It is especially well suited for small groups, dessert runs after a meal, and anyone who appreciates variety without too much fuss. In a city full of options, this Inner Richmond cafe has earned attention by keeping things simple: fresh ingredients, quick turnaround, and flavors that keep people coming back.

Entered and sat pretty quickly. Desserts came fast and were really tasty. The mango sago was really nice. Came in the winter time and the fruit was still fresh. It wasn’t overly sweet nor was it too creamy. Also the portion size was good for an after dinner dessert. Overall a nice well balanced all around dish to have.

Great place for Canto desserts that will transport you back to the Hong Kong of the 70’s & 80’s for the yummy fish balls, fried chicken wings, sandwiches, fries, finishing with a bowl of hot sesame and almond soup with sesame or peanut glutinous rice balls. There is a special “Happy Hour” menu that is a great deal. Service is prompt and the ambience is laid back-perfect way to end a date night.
