For locals searching for Vietnamese food in Hayward or a quick bite near Amador Street, it is known most clearly for banh mi, Vietnamese drinks, and a mix of grab-and-go style hot items. The business carries a 4-star rating from more than 360 customer reviews, which gives a useful picture of a spot that many guests return to for familiar flavors, fair value, and everyday convenience rather than a formal sit-down meal.
The menu's anchor is banh mi, and customer comments often point to BBQ pork as a favorite, along with grilled pork and chicken versions for people who like a classic Vietnamese sandwich. Expect the familiar contrast of toasted bread, savory meat, fresh herbs, and pickled vegetables, with quality that many guests describe as satisfying for the price. La Ca Bakery & Cafe also appeals to people who want more than a sandwich: reviews mention side items, hot food choices, sticky rice with lap xuong, Thai tea, and Vietnamese coffee. That range makes it a flexible stop for breakfast, lunch, an afternoon drink, or a casual meal when everyone in the group wants something different.
The atmosphere is simple, fast, and cafe-like, with a focus on counter-service comfort rather than polished dining-room details. It works well for commuters, students, workers on a lunch break, families picking up food to share, and anyone looking for Vietnamese comfort food without a long wait. Because some reviews note that the seating area can feel busy or in need of extra attention, La Ca Bakery & Cafe may be best approached as a practical neighborhood stop: order a banh mi, add a drink, take food to go, or settle in when the space feels right. That honest, everyday quality is part of its local identity.

The experience is not presented as upscale or carefully curated; it is more local, direct, and useful--the kind of place people keep in mind when they want a BBQ pork banh mi, a Vietnamese coffee, or a quick meal from a Vietnamese business in Hayward.

Sign in to reviewI used to come here when it was Lee's Sandwiches specifically for the Bahn Mi's. I have to say that La Ca Bakery makes some pretty good sandwiches and more too! Favorite Bahn Mi is the BBQ Pork, but all the other side items are delicious as well. They have hot items that are a taste of goodness such as the crispy wrapped shrimps or pork buns. Huge variety of fantastic foods, and the service is friendly and fast.
If you’re looking for a spot that does everything right, this is it! From the moment you walk in, you can tell this place is special. Their bánh mì is hands-down one of the best I’ve had — perfectly toasted bread, flavorful meats, fresh herbs, and just the right amount of pickled veggies. Every bite is pure satisfaction. And can we talk about the desserts? 🍰🥤 Each one is deliciously unique and so satisfying, especially paired with their coffee — rich, smooth, and brewed just right. The dessert selection alone is worth a return visit. This place is easily one of my favorites — excellent food, great drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend to anyone who loves bold flavors and quality eats!
I eat here occasionally, love the bahn mi, Thai tea and viet coffee. Good for the price.
This place has good food, but they really do need to focus on cleaning up the area where you eat! All the tables were filled with crumbs from people eating and the floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned in over a week and none of the staff seemed to care about it. They were busy on their phones instead of tidying up the place.
Their menu is very eclectic so it can be a hit or miss. Their banh mi (I've tried grilled pork and chicken) is average, not amazing but does the job, though slightly overpriced. I prefer when the meat is still warm, but both the bread and meat were cold. But surprisingly their sticky rice with lap chong was phenomenal! The sticky rice stayed soft even until the next day, and they even had tiny dried shrimp topping, not just fried shallots. I've tried their mochi donut and those were pretty good. MoDo is still my all time favorite. But if I can't drive all the way to Santa Clara then this is not a bad choice.
