Reviews describe experiences that vary considerably. Some families praise Legacy Hospice staff as skilled, kind, compassionate, and readily available by phone or in person, including around the clock. They describe receiving support for a parent’s comfort and quality of life, with staff responding to needs during a difficult final week. Other reviewers report serious concerns, including medication not being available when expected, delays or disagreement about care arrangements, and difficult communication. One former patient also describes being admitted to hospice and later discharged after a reassessment. These accounts are individual experiences, not a guarantee of what another family will encounter, but they point to the importance of discussing expectations in detail.
For anyone considering Legacy Health in Portland, useful questions may include how eligibility is assessed and reviewed, who to contact at any hour, how quickly a nurse can respond, and how medication and other care needs are coordinated. Ask what happens if a patient’s condition changes or hospice is no longer appropriate, and request a clear explanation of discharge and transition arrangements. Families may also want to clarify who makes decisions, how concerns are escalated, and what support is available to caregivers. Confirm the specific services, coverage, costs, and care plan directly; those details are not provided in the business listing.
The available listing shows a 3.3-star rating from 12 reviews, reflecting a limited set of mixed opinions rather than a complete measure of care. For families comparing hospice options in Portland, reading recent feedback and speaking directly with the care team can help establish whether communication and support feel right. Legacy Health may be worth discussing with a physician, discharge planner, or family decision-makers when exploring local hospice care. A thoughtful conversation about comfort priorities, responsibilities, and response times can help families make an informed choice and know what to expect before care begins.

Was just released from Hospice 6 days ago, after being forced in to Hospice in the first place a few months ago. The Hospice doctor determined that I wasn't as bad as determined and didn't really need to be on Hospice. I was released generally with 2 weeks medication to give the VA time to transfer me back over to their system that Hospice had transferred me off of. Today I called the Hospice nurse to get some oxygen(as I've been on oxygen for about 2 and a half years now) as I only have 3 tanks left, and the nurse said they wouldn't give me any oxygen because I'm not on Hospice anymore. When they were releasing me from Hospice they said they would give me up to 30 days of coverage on the oxygen to give the VA time to transfer me over. I had told them when they were releasing me that it would take the VA longer than 7 days to transfer me over to the system Hospice took me off of to start with. Now I'm almost out of oxygen(except for a concentrator that doesn't do me any good if I need to go to the bathroom, or try to get something to eat or drink) because Legacy Hospice refused to give me a couple of tanks to get me through.
Legacy Hospice workers were skilled, kind and readily available 24/7. Whether by phone or in person they were always compassionate about my mother’s care. They promptly provided what was needed to improve her quality of life and insure her comfort. With the help and support of Legacy Hospice we were able to give my Mom a painless and peaceful death.
Legacy Hospice was being trusted by my brother to a great degree for our mother’s end of life care. Unfortunately thanks to the absolute belligerent insistence of the nurse in particular her cremation was ultimately handed off to Tulip in Portland in lieu of one locally. It is more expensive - by a long shot. After being a career long Legacy supporter this place has fallen, and I am personally and professionally remorseful for anyone I’ve ever referred here. Hospice used to work to support families after - not trample across and change plans for them.
Our experience with Legacy Hospice has been abysmal and damaging during a very difficult time. They sent my mother home with no medication, then sent a coordinator for paperwork prior to a nurse or any medication. They said the hospital …
After a second heart attack, my 97 year old mom was sent home on Hospice with Legacy. Everyone from the admission to the end of life nurse was so kind, compassionate and caring. We could not have asked for more during the week she was dying. It was a very difficult week, but they were there to support us every step of way. I refer to them as the ‘angels at Hospice.’ We cannot thank them enough.
