Lion Market Shopping Center is a supermarket in Newark, CA, located at 39055 Cedar Blvd #168, Newark, CA 94560, United States. With a 3.8-star rating from 786 reviews, it has become a familiar stop for shoppers who want a mix of Asian groceries and everyday household items in one place. The store is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., which makes it a reliable option for routine grocery runs, after-work errands, and weekend stocking-up. For local shoppers searching for a supermarket in Newark, CA, this location stands out for its broad selection and steady flow of customers, and it serves as a dependable neighborhood stop.
Many customers say the shelves lean toward Southeast Asian products, with Thai brands such as Healthy Boy, Mama, and Pantai among the labels they recognize. Beyond pantry staples, reviewers mention coffee, vegetables, seafood, fresh seafood, and meat, so it works as more than a specialty market. Some shoppers also note helpful services like cutting chicken into smaller pieces before they leave the store. That kind of practical support can make meal prep easier for home cooks who want to bring ingredients home and start cooking right away, whether they are stocking a pantry or building a weeknight dinner. It is also a useful place for anyone looking to try familiar flavors from Southeast Asian kitchens.
The shopping experience appears to be mixed but generally solid. Several visitors describe the store as organized and say customer service is good, with enough people at the registers to help keep lines moving. Others, however, mention that checkout can feel slow at times and that certain frozen items may be tucked toward the back, so a little patience can help. One review also notes that produce can cost a bit more than at some other Asian grocery stores. Still, the overall impression is of a busy neighborhood supermarket where many shoppers find what they need without a long wait, especially if they know what they want.
Lion Market Shopping Center may be especially appealing to families, home cooks, and shoppers who value variety over a polished setup. A few customers wish there were more live fish options, which suggests the store could continue to expand its fresh-food offerings, but the current mix already gives buyers plenty to choose from. If you are in Newark, CA and want a supermarket that covers staples, specialty ingredients, and fresh seafood or meat in one stop, this is a practical place to check first. The steady hours and broad selection make it easy to build into a regular shopping routine for quick, repeat visits.

Lion Market Shopping Center (Stealing Chicken) Today I went shopping at Lion Market. Address: 39055 Cedar Blvd #168, Newark, CA 94560. I bought a chicken and they helped me cut it into small pieces. When I got home and opened the package, I realized the pieces were too big. Curious, I pieced the chicken together and discovered it was missing half a breast, a quarter of a drumstick, and a quarter of a breast rack (see the picture above): 3, 4, and 5. I was so angry I almost laughed. I immediately returned to the supermarket (it took about 20 minutes to get back there) and spoke to the manager, an elderly woman who spoke Chinese. I told her what happened, but she didn't believe me. So I immediately covered my shopping cart with newspaper and pieced the whole chicken back together (see the picture above, taken at the supermarket). She lied and said she didn't know why. She then asked me why I hadn't taken the chicken out and pieced it together when I bought it. (If something like this happens, it must be the default operation of their supermarket.) It is recommended that customers pay more attention when purchasing chicken or fish, or food that needs to be cut into small pieces.
Products leans towards South East Asian. Good amount of Thai brands: Healthy Boy, Mama, Pantai, etc..

Slow unenthusiastic cashiers. Disorganized, sometimes I need to dig for a product hidden at the back of the freezer. Open late at 9am, very inconvenient after school drop off, I would drive to 99 ranch slightly further to shop.
