Be careful with billing transparency and treatment communication at this office. I asked several times how much the filling would cost, but I never received a clear answer before the procedure. During my visit I was told the cleaning would be about $100. The dentist said she would try a filling first, and if the filling failed then I might need a crown. Later I was told the crown would cost about $500 out-of-pocket copay, which made me uncomfortable because the pricing and explanation were not clear. After the filling was placed, my bite felt off and it was adjusted. I was told at the time that there would be no charge because the filling was not completed. However, after I declined the crown, I was later told I would be charged for the filling instead. The statement later showed $894 in total charges for the visit (cleaning and filling). After $865.20 in insurance credits, my remaining balance was $28.80, which I paid. Small pieces of the filling also broke off the same day. I believed the filling had been removed because of the bite issue, but later I was told the filling was still there and had not been removed, which made the situation even more confusing. The amount itself is small, but the lack of clear pricing and changing explanations during the visit caused me to lose trust. The dentist is friendly, but patients should be careful and ask for exact prices and clear treatment details before any procedure, not rough estimates.

So, I’m not sure if this is the dentist or an absolutely bat-crazy receptionist, but I made an appointment for a cleaning. I am pregnant, and received a list of information and guidelines from my OB (read: an MD, my doctor, who is an expert on pregnancy and in charge of my healthcare). I asked if they (the dentist) would fill my cavities, to which they replied via email: “we will discuss when you come in”. Weird response, considering it’s kind of a yes or no, but okay. I show up for my appointment, and the receptionist says “we don’t do procedures on pregnant people”. I said okay, what if I need a cavity filled? She said no, we don’t want the liability. I pulled up the list from my OB (a doctor, an MD, a professional in pregnancy and birth) and said, “my doctor says it’s important I get cavities taken care of, and that if I need X-Rays they are safe” and oh my god she lost her mind. “X-Rays?? Anyone that says you can do X-Rays, you need to run the other way!!” It caught me completely off guard, and I meekly tried to suggest again, “I don’t need X-rays necessarily, but I need to know you’ll treat my cavities”. She was On One™ so I just walked out of the office. Honestly I don’t know if these are the actual dentist’s policies, or just a random fearmongering exaggerating receptionist, but that absolutely will stick in my memory for a long time. She went 0-60 and even if that is their policy, inputting her (uneducated, non-factual) opinion is absolutely inappropriate. Anyway, I had no problem finding another dentist who took the guidelines from my OB (a medical doctor, an expert on pregnancy) and filled my 2 cavities and gave me a cleaning.
