Sign in to reviewDecember 23 at 5:14 PM – I walked in carrying a Whole Foods paper bag with a bottled juice and had not purchased anything yet. The staff member at the entrance immediately pointed at my bag and commented on the drink inside. This approach comes across as accusatory and unwelcoming. Handling situations this way will drive customers away. Staff should be trained to communicate store policies politely and respectfully, not in a manner that makes customers feel uncomfortable.
Very reasonably priced Asian supermarket — perfect for any and all Chinese and Filipino cooking needs. Southeast Asian (but lesser extent Thai) and Latino groceries available. Produce — while fresh — sometime require some digging to avoid the over-ripe items. Exotic vegetables, fruits and herbs. Wide selection of fresh fish kept on ice make for a visual treat. Well-stocked butcher. Asian snacks, condiments and sauces abound.
I often shop at this supermarket. Last time, my wife bought capelin here and was given a bag of stale capelin. This time, I came here to buy pig tails. I personally selected three whole pig tails with tail tips (the tail tip is the most delicious part of the pig tail) and asked the clerk to cut them into sections for me. But when I got home and opened the bag, I found that they weren't three whole pig tails at all, and there was only one tail tip left (I personally selected three). They must have replaced the most delicious part with the rest that others didn't want. In the future, everyone should watch the clerk cut the meat while they are cutting it, otherwise you won't be able to find the meat you selected.
Good selection, prices are similar to other stores in SF
I had a very disappointing and upsetting experience at this supermarket during a recent visit, and I think other customers should be aware. While checking out, an item was accidentally missed by the cashier. Instead of handling the situation calmly and professionally, another staff member approached me and immediately accused me of theft—without verifying what had actually happened. There was no attempt to review footage or even ask clarifying questions. Instead, I was confronted publicly, spoken to in a raised voice, and it even appeared that the situation was being recorded. This was not only embarrassing but completely unnecessary. Mistakes at checkout can happen, and how staff respond makes all the difference. In this case, the response felt accusatory, unprofessional, and poorly handled. I hope the store takes this seriously and improves staff training, especially when it comes to handling sensitive situations like suspected theft. Customers deserve to be treated with respect and fairness, not rushed to judgment in public. Until then, I would advise others to be cautious when shopping here.
