Marina Food Market is a neighborhood Asian grocery store in San Mateo, CA, located at 2992 S Norfolk St, San Mateo, CA 94403. With a 4-star rating from more than 1,000 customer reviews, it is a familiar stop for Peninsula shoppers who want everyday Asian ingredients without making a long trip across the Bay. The store is open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, making it useful for early grocery runs, after-work errands, or a full weekend restock for home cooking.

The market is especially practical for fresh produce and pantry basics. Shoppers mention a broad vegetable section with greens such as chrysanthemum greens, bok choy, a choy, giant pea sprouts, Napa cabbage, and other staples used in stir-fries, soups, hot pot, and family-style meals. Alongside produce, customers can find canned goods, packaged foods, seasonings, dry goods, and household items that support everyday Asian cooking. For anyone building a meal around rice, noodles, greens, sauces, and quick side dishes, Marina Food Market offers a straightforward place to gather the essentials.

Seafood is also a key part of the shopping experience here. Customer reviews describe live and packaged seafood, including fish, lobsters, shrimp, and live crabs, plus meats and hot cooked foods for shoppers who want something ready to bring home. The atmosphere is no-frills and functional rather than polished: some reviewers note that the interior feels dated and busy, while others appreciate the value, selection, and convenience. As with any large, high-traffic grocery store, it is smart to check product dates, inspect fresh items, and shop earlier in the day when selection matters most.

Because the selection covers both raw ingredients and prepared options, the market fits several kinds of visits. It can work for families stocking up for the week, home cooks planning a hot pot night, or shoppers who only need a quick bundle of greens and a few packaged staples. Reviews also point to value for larger grocery runs, especially when shoppers are filling a cart with produce, meat, seafood, pantry goods, and household basics. That flexibility is useful in a dense local shopping area where convenience matters.

For locals in San Mateo, Foster City, and nearby neighborhoods, Marina Food Market works well for home cooks, families, and anyone planning an Asian pantry refill. Parking can feel tight during crowded weekend periods, so weekday mornings or off-peak hours may make the trip easier. If you are searching for an Asian grocery store in San Mateo, CA with fresh greens, seafood options, meat, cooked foods, and household basics under one roof, this market is a practical, established stop for routine shopping.

A few months ago, this store changed its name from Marina Supermarket to Hashi Market. According to the staff, it is now a Japanese market. I happened to stop by on a Monday morning after dropping my child off at summer camp nearby and bought a lot of vegetables. Unfortunately, when I got home, I found that many of the vegetables were already spoiled — including the Taiwanese loofah (silk gourd). I bought three loofahs and used two the next morning for soup, only to find they were completely fibrous and stringy inside, like tough roots — totally inedible. Today, while dropping off my child again, I stopped by the market to ask for a refund. However, the cashier was only willing to refund me for one loofah, despite the fact that I showed her photos of all three. She said I needed to bring back the cooked loofahs in order to get a refund… seriously? The total was only $7.50. If the store wasn’t on my way, I wouldn't even bother going back. It’s disappointing that the store would put the burden on the customer for such a small refund, especially when clear evidence was provided. I understand that some customers may take advantage of return policies, but in this case, I had proof — what more do you expect? Should I really dig the inedible loofah out of the trash just to prove my case? This was my first time ever trying to return something at a grocery store, and it was an unpleasant experience. Not a good impression for a new start.

Good for Asian food. But be aware of the expiration date of the products. It is not a nice place to shop because it is not very clean and does not smell so good. Must be because it has an aquarium with fish, lobsters, shrimps, live crabs. Looking like that does not make you want to eat, the aquariums are too dirty. There are other better places to buy fish.

I used to live near Foster City, so it's been quite a while since I visited this particular Marina Market. While seeing my doctor at the San Mateo Hospital, I swung by this location hoping to pick up some Asian groceries. Most items are pretty much standard amongst most Asian supermarket chains (Ranch 99 or Hankook), however, when I strolled by their Deli Counter, I nearly couldn't believe my own eyes - an ENTIRE Roast Duck for $22.99‼️‼️‼️ Roast Duck prices have skyrocketed in recent years, whether it's Peking Duck or Roast Duck, the same roast ducks are $27.99 for HALF Duck, here you get the WHOLE duck for less! This is an incredible price, I hope this is their regular prices; if so, I'd come every other week😋😋😋 The lady behind the Deli Counter was also super nice, but unfortunately, unlike Ranch 99, where I could ask for some dipping sauces, the dripping & the duck marinade which are super flavorful; especially when added on top of a rice plate. But, fortunately, Marina Market's roast ducks are way juicier than the Ranch 99 counterpart (which tend to be much dryer & need additional sauces to give some flavors). I HIGHLY recommend coming here just to get their Roast Ducks, it pays for the trip👍😋😋 Additionally, I was also able to get some 6-oz tofus for mere $1.29/ec, which cost at least $1.69. I also picked up some yummy Taiwanese can goods of gumminess😋😋 In summary, if you are not interested in the roast ducks, then any Asian supermarkets would do; however, if you love some delicious roast ducks, it's well worth your while

Chinese grocery store that offers a wide selection of vegetables, live and packaged seafood, meats, hot cooked foods, canned goods, and household items. Dated and dark interior, but overall good value. Parking lot can be difficult to maneuver, as parking spots are small and weekend crowds makes driving a challenge.

If you buy more than $80 of stuff, you get an automatic discount on your purchase, it's not just to use on deli stuff The produce section has the freshest greens in the area, chrysanthemum greens, bok choy, a choy, giant pea sprouts, Napa and more. If you don't know what you're doing, buy something tender looking, stir fry in hot oil, and lightly salt it. If you don't like it, add a sauce (in my experience oyster sauce fixes everything, my husband likes chili oil) Great hot food counter if you don't feel like cooking. The roast duck, and the squid are my favorites. The kids want the roast peanuts
