For anyone searching for an Asian grocery store in San Francisco with a convenient Chinatown location, May Sun Market stands out as an easy place to browse for fruits, vegetables, and pantry basics in the heart of the city.
What many shoppers remember most about May Sun Market is the produce selection. Customer feedback often highlights fruits and vegetables that feel notably fresh and reasonably priced, with some shoppers describing the market as a place where the quality is better than what they typically find at larger chain stores. That makes this Asian grocery store especially useful for people who cook often and want ingredients that look vibrant and ready to use. If you are shopping in San Francisco for fresh greens, fruit, or ingredients for everyday meals, this market offers the kind of selection that encourages a slower, more careful look through the aisles.
Another detail that adds to the store's appeal is its practical, service-oriented approach. One reviewer specifically appreciated being able to choose a cut of meat and have it ground to their specifications, a helpful option for home cooks preparing dumplings, stir-fries, soups, or other dishes that call for a particular texture. Shoppers have also noted that the store takes credit cards, which can make quick grocery runs more convenient. These small but useful touches give May Sun Market the feel of a neighborhood shop that supports real daily cooking rather than just one-time specialty shopping.
The atmosphere at May Sun Market appears to be straightforward and busy in the way many city markets are: focused on the essentials, centered on fresh food, and geared toward people who know what they want as well as those who enjoy discovering what looks best that day. It can be a good fit for Chinatown residents, nearby workers picking up ingredients after work, and visitors who want to shop where locals shop. Fresh produce, fair pricing, and useful custom service are the qualities most consistently reflected in positive feedback.
As with many small markets, experiences can vary, and some reviews mention concerns about specific purchases and customer service. Even so, May Sun Market continues to be part of the local grocery landscape in San Francisco, California, especially for shoppers who prioritize fresh fruits, vegetables, and accessible pricing in Chinatown. If you are looking for an Asian grocery store in San Francisco for produce-forward shopping and everyday cooking needs, May Sun Market is a spot worth knowing.

Sign in to reviewcan I just tell you that I think I died and went to vegetable market Heaven walking into this place? everything is so fresh and extremely reasonably priced, I wish I could gather up this incredible market and take it right back home with me to Texas. Great job May Sun market. You guys are amazing. 🖤🙏🏻🙏🏻 …
Spent over $40 and trusted the lady there when she said the durian she chose for me was a good one. Turn out it was so bitter and not sweet. Never had such bad durian in my life. I'm so upset 😡 …
One cashier was not honest. Not being careful, I left my wallet with lots of cash in it at the counter in front of the cashier. 😞. Until I realized and returned to ask about it, she denied for seeing it. 😤😡. I was sure she saw it and took it because there was no other customer behind me at the time. I will not go back to this market anymore.
I went here for the first time yesterday and bought a bunch of fruit. It was all delicious and priced very reasonably. Would go there all the time if i lived closer, their produce is much higher quality than you will find at stores like Safeway.
Update 10/7/2022 - discovered a new feature of this place - you could pick a piece of meat and the shop will grind it for you per your specifications. Huge help for me today! Thank you! My favorite market in Chinatown - their stuff is fresh and good. Also mainly because they TAKE CREDIT CARD.
