MUJI Portland is a variety store at 621 SW 5th Ave in Portland, Oregon, bringing together everyday goods for personal use, work, and home. The store’s selection, as described by visitors, includes clothing, housewares, office supplies, food, and a particularly popular range of pens, pencils, and stationery. Its practical, considered products make it a useful stop for shoppers who want to browse several categories in one place and find items they can put to work in daily routines.
The Portland shop is noted for an open, calm atmosphere. One visitor who had been to MUJI stores in Kyoto and Seoul was pleasantly surprised by the Portland location’s bright windows, natural light, plants, a few chairs, and relatively few mannequins. Those details suggest a space where browsing can feel unhurried rather than crowded with displays. Another customer said there was plenty to see and that a visit could take some time, so it may suit anyone who enjoys looking around and discovering useful items at their own pace.
Stationery is a clear favorite among customers. One reviewer regularly returns for the pens and pencils, praising their quality, while the broader assortment gives visitors other practical options for home and work. Food and drink are also part of the experience: reviews mention a coffee-making robot and a coffee counter, along with teas prepared by a staff member who was praised for accommodating a request to adjust sweetness. These are details reported by customers, rather than a promise that every item or service is available at all times.
Visitors also mention small conveniences that can make a shopping trip more comfortable. One review describes a water fountain for refilling a personal bottle near the coffee counter, as well as the option to purchase a bottle. The store may be a good fit for people shopping for stationery, clothing, household goods, supplies, or food; for downtown visitors seeking a relaxed browse; and for customers who appreciate attentive service. A reviewer specifically remembered a staff member’s thoughtful help during a birthday visit, illustrating the personal interactions that can make a return trip feel special.

I’ve visited Muji in Kyoto and Seoul, and I was genuinely surprised by the open atmosphere of MUJI in Portland. The details stood out immediately—plants placed beside large windows facing the street, natural light pouring in through the frames, a few chairs, and only a small number of mannequins. Everything felt carefully balanced: spacious yet private, open enough to let your eyes wander outside, allowing you to quietly observe the world beyond. In my opinion, the décor here is beautiful. I came to buy toner, serum, matcha, Japanese paper, and to experience their natural materials like linen and cotton. I’m drawn to Muji’s simplicity—the way it focuses on personal experience and everyday comfort. The forms are clean, geometric, and clear; pieces can easily be mixed and matched. The prices aren’t too expensive either, depending on the season or collection, and sometimes you unexpectedly find something you truly love. Physical experience—seeing, touching, smelling, tasting, and feeling—is where life truly exists. The emotional experience of shopping has never become outdated; it has simply become more refined, more focused, and more personal. It feels like a quiet discovery—just enough, never too loud. And one more thing—when I walked into Muji, I noticed that the staff here were just as gentle and polite as the ones in Kyoto. Honestly, that surprised me.
I love the Muji store in Portland! They have such great products all around, but my favorite go-tos are definitely the pens, pencils, and stationery — the quality is always so good. There’s also a robot coffee-making machine in the store, …
John Luke was absolutely amazing and so sweet! He perfectly crafted iut teas and even little us super ot to adjust the sweetness. He made our birthday so special. We came here almost 4 years ago and I had to come back. So glad I did.
Nov 2025 visit Walking into this Portland shop felt almost like my Ginza visit earlier this year. And same as that store, there's a water fountain available for refilling your own water bottle or you can purchase one. Located behind the coffee counter to the far right side, next to the thermos. Coffee counter is on the right of the check out counters. Items were labeled in English and German. Plenty of holiday items as it is November. And snacks! I didn't browse for snacks too much bc I needed to catch a bus, but chocolate covered dried strawberries were available. And a 3 pack of jam in quintessential Japanese flavors: strawberry, yuzu, and red bean. If you're interested in the well-reviewed small nail clippers, there's a spot for them on the shelf - empty today. I bought them when I visited Tokyo and they are quite nice for the $7-8 I paid. And many house goods. Such a fun store. I might have to visit again before heading home.
Awesome store. Clothing, houseware, occurs supplies and even food. Great place to visit. Found lots of useful items that actually make sense. You’ll spend some time here. Lots to see.
