Many reviews highlight the salon’s strength in precision haircuts and personalized styling. Customers mention stylists such as Yoshino, Ardee, Yuka, and Owen as friendly professionals who listen closely, ask questions, and focus on getting the result right. Short styles and structured cuts come up often in feedback, including custom layered looks and classic bobs. Several guests describe feeling welcomed and heard during the appointment, which matters when you want a haircut tailored to your preferences instead of a one-size-fits-all approach. That detail-first experience is a major reason people remember the salon after just one visit.
The atmosphere also plays a big part in why Nepenji Japan Center Beauty Clinic draws attention in San Francisco. Reviewers note that the salon is often busy, which can be a good sign for anyone searching for a popular hair salon in San Francisco, California. Its location in Japantown adds to the appeal for people who appreciate the neighborhood and want a salon visit that feels connected to that local cultural setting. The salon is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, making it a practical option for weekday appointments as well as weekend grooming.
This salon may be especially appealing for clients who value communication, polished technique, and stylists who take time with shape and finishing. At the same time, one review suggests that people with thick, highly textured hair may want to have a very clear consultation about texture, length, and cutting approach before the service begins. That kind of conversation can help set expectations and improve the experience, especially when your hair has specific needs.
For anyone exploring hair salons in San Francisco, CA, Nepenji Japan Center Beauty Clinic is a solid option to consider, particularly if you are interested in a Japanese salon environment and precise haircutting. Because reviews mention that the salon can be fully booked, planning ahead is wise. Whether you are after a fresh bob, a custom cut, or regular maintenance in Japantown, this salon is one many customers return to for careful work and a welcoming touch.

Sign in to reviewOMG! 🤩 First try, found my salon in the Bay. Having missed Japan deeply since our couple months there a year ago, I felt pulled to this location, and Yoshino did MARVELOUS art on my hair! She listened intently to the stipulations of my custom haircut blend (wolf hawk mullet?) & asked for permission or direction with each major step, as it’d been a while for a cut. She listened when I had an opinion, AND when I asked for her artistic preference, she chose beautifully 💯! Coming back for sure. Yuka who set the appointment (& all else there!) ALL were so sweet and welcoming. A true diamond in the rough in San Francisco! Bonus: the prices are the only thing not SF (more Japanese) about it, QUITE modest especially for the level of service. -¶
I’ve been eyeing this salon for a while since it’s always busy whenever I’m in Japantown, so I finally decided to book a classic bob on the last day of 2025. Ardee did an amazing job! He’s super friendly, welcoming, and really attentive to detail. He’s also been working at this salon for 6 years, which definitely shows in his work. This is officially my go-to spot for haircuts in SF. Thanks for the great service, and Happy New Year 2026! ✨
I DO NOT recommend if you have thick, textured hair! My hair dresser didn’t take time to understand my hair texture, he cut off 4 inches when I asked for 2, and his cutting technique was so poor!!!!! The haircut is extremely choppy even when straight and if I leave it wavy, it puffs up/ looks extra frizzy. This is NOT because of my hair texture. I’ve had short hair long ago and it didn’t look like this when wavy. During the haircut I told him the front turned out too short, he could see I wasn’t happy. He tells me “your haircut will be nice when styled”. I don’t want to be styling it everyday!!!!! ANY HAIR LOOKS GOOD STYLED! What nonsense advice is that. NEVER going back.
Yuka & Owen are great stylists! Not only are they friendly, but are very detailed-orientated and seek perfection with their work. They care about giving you the best haircut possible. I highly recommend!!
So sad I didn’t get to experience a hair cut here. I took about 2 trams and 1 bus to get here to ONLY come see them. To then get turned away because they were completely booked. I emphasized their website didn’t have an option to make an appointment and I had called and no one picked up. And the response was simply “sorry we are full” to be frank, I didn’t get acknowledged when I walked in because the receptionist was on his phone, and I had to greet him to get his attention. He asked me if I wanted to come back tomorrow and make an appointment but unfortunately I have work 7-6 and they close at 6. So I came today on my only day off. Mind you I did extensive research on how to book an appointment and there was no way to do so online. The only option was to call but no one picked up…
