I’ve visited this restaurant several times now, and my experience has been great each time. The first time, a friend and I had the Bun Bo Hue, and it was absolutely delicious. Since then, it’s become one of my go-to lunch spots. I’ve been here alone during a weekday lunch, and the service was quick because it wasn’t very busy. I’ve also visited with my husband and kids during a busy lunch rush, and yes, we had to wait—but so was everyone else. From what I observed, there was only one waiter greeting guests, taking orders, serving food, and cleaning tables. That’s a lot for one person to handle. I also noticed a sign on the door (in Vietnamese) saying they’re actively looking to hire more staff. To me, this seems more like a staffing shortage than favoritism. While I can’t speak on anyone else’s personal experience, I can only share that I’ve always been treated respectfully regardless of who was dining around me. The lunch menu is a hidden gem, good portions, delicious food, and very reasonable prices. If you’re looking for a quick, flavorful lunch, I definitely recommend giving this place a try and showing a little patience if they’re busy. Hopefully, they’ll be able to hire more help soon because the food is worth it.
I visited this restaurant for lunch with a few coworkers and was genuinely disappointed. On the positive side, the food was fairly good and the portions were generous with lunch specials being very affordable. However, the service completely changed my impression of the restaurant. After our food was brought to the table, our server never checked on us or provided any additional service for the remainder of the meal. When it came time to pay, we had to call the server multiple times as well and felt uncomfortable. I selected the custom tip option because I felt the level of service did not justify a standard gratuity. The server canceled my selection and directly asked if I could leave a larger tip. I was genuinely speechless. In all my years of dining out, I have never had a server override my tip selection and request a higher amount. I understand that restaurant staff rely on tips and I have no problem rewarding good service. However, tipping should reflect the quality of service provided, not simply the price of the meal. We ended up leaving 18% tip on our meal. He proceeded to explain that since the meal was cheap, I should add more tip. By that logic, customers should be able to leave a smaller percentage on more expensive meals, which is obviously not how tipping is expected to work. I get that the lunch special was cheap but tip is earned through the service, not by the price of the meal or pressuring customers during the payment process.
It’s hard to beat the $8.99 pho lunch special (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–4 PM). The food is good and the prices are very reasonable. One thing to keep in mind is that leftovers from the lunch special can’t be boxed to go, so order only what you’ll eat. The service is okay but not very welcoming, so even though it’s inexpensive, I don’t visit very often.
perfect location within the H Mart Doraville shopping plaza. I was really impressed with how clean the restaurant was, both inside and out. The flavor of the pho was very good, although I do wish the broth had been served a bit hotter to …
My family and I visited yesterday after it was highly recommended. We were excited to try it, but unfortunately the service was very disappointing. Our server set up our table and then never returned. I had to go find him just to place our appetizer order. Meanwhile, couples seated after us were promptly greeted and served without issue. Throughout the evening, he brought several items to our table that were not ours. I even had to remind him of the appetizers I ordered and list them again. When I reviewed my receipt, I noticed I was charged for four appetizers instead of three. We were also given one jug of water and only four cups, despite having more than four people in our party. No refills, no check-ins, no clarification. At one point my oldest grabbed an extra water off a table that left. To make matters worse, a $21 gratuity was added to my bill without being communicated to us beforehand. The food was okay, but the service lacked attention, accuracy, and basic communication. If automatic gratuity is standard for larger parties, that should be explained upfront. Orders should be verified before being charged, and guests should not have to track down their server for assistance. Is this typical service here? Has anyone else experienced this? There is definite room for improvement in how guests are handled.
