Nong's Khao Man Gai (SE) is a Thai restaurant at 609 SE Ankeny St C in Portland, Oregon, serving the chicken-and-rice comfort food that gives the restaurant its name. The menu’s best-known choice, the Classic (#1), pairs tender poached chicken with fragrant rice and a distinctive sauce that customers often describe as the dish’s defining touch. It is a straightforward, satisfying meal built around carefully cooked staples rather than a long list of extras. For diners looking for Thai chicken rice in Portland, Nong’s is a familiar local option, and its central SE Ankeny address makes it easy to identify when planning a meal or takeout stop. The restaurant is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to its listed hours.

The chicken rice is not the only reason customers return. Reviewers also mention the Crispy Chicken (#4), appreciating its crunch, generous portion, and texture that they find less greasy than expected. Another option is pork prepared Thai style; one regular says the softer, gelatinous pork skin is part of what makes that order their personal favorite. These are customer experiences, so preferences will vary, but they point to a menu with more than one comforting protein choice. Chicken soup is another recurring highlight in reviews, with diners praising its flavor and describing it as especially memorable alongside the rice dishes. If you are deciding what to try, the Classic is a natural first order, while crispy chicken or the pork dish offers a different take on the restaurant’s hearty, focused style.

Nong’s suits a quick lunch, an uncomplicated dinner, or a takeout meal when you want something flavorful without a drawn-out restaurant visit. Customers describe the food as coming out quickly, sometimes almost as soon as they have settled in, and say the staff are friendly. Reviews also call the portions plentiful and the food healthful, though individual experiences and appetites differ. The atmosphere can feel busy: diners have reported a packed interior and a limited number of outdoor seats at the time of their visit. There is also a self-serve area where customers have found garlic, ginger, and hot spices, allowing them to adjust the meal to taste. Together, the fast service, comforting menu, and casual setting make it a practical choice for people eating alone, meeting a companion, or picking up food to enjoy elsewhere.

For local diners comparing Thai restaurants in Portland, Nong’s Khao Man Gai stands out for its focused chicken-rice offering, flavorful rice, tender chicken, and signature sauce, with crispy chicken, pork, and soup adding variety. The listed address is 609 SE Ankeny St C, Portland, OR 97214, United States. Its public listing shows a 4.6 rating from 2,695 reviews, a useful snapshot of customer feedback rather than a guarantee of any individual visit. Grabbed takeout from Nong's and got the #1 and #4: #1 Classic: Absolutely spot-on. Tender poached chicken, aromatic rice, and that legendary sauce that makes the dish. #4 Crispy Chicken: Great crunch without being overly greasy. Really good portion size as well. Solid 4-star experience overall! Everything came out hot, well-packaged, and delicious. Prices are a bit on the higher side for counter service, but the food is consistently good.

This is my GO TO spot when I want something tasty, healthy and quick. I originally came for the chicken dish they are known for but after trying the pork one time, I have never ordered the chicken for myself again. I get the pork dish “Thai style” which means they give extra soft gelatinous pork skin which is addictive when you dip it in the spicy vinegar sauce it comes with. My family and I love this place for the delicious food, great service from the counter and healthy quick options. Highly recommend the peanut sauce for the kids

For a faced paced (it was basically done by the time we poured tea) place the food was very good. For me, especially the soup. There is a fridge where garlic, ginger, and hot spices were; that you self serve at. Inside was basically packed, but we wanted to be outside. We grabbed one of the few remaining tables. This place is busy but was worth it. Multiple items were already sold out, to our dismay, but we were able to get all but 1 thing that we wanted in the end. Parking is on the street, but free after hours. They had multiple people coming in to pick up orders; so come and sit or grab it and go.

Yummy chicken spot with super friendly staff and plentiful seating. Food was healthful and delish. Chicken soup was downright exceptional, I don’t know how they did it. …

One of my favorite spots for Thai chicken rice. The chicken is always tender and flavorful, the rice is packed with taste, and the sauce brings everything together perfectly. Portions are generous and the comfort food vibes are unmatched. Service is always friendly and the food comes out quick even when it’s busy. Definitely a go-to place whenever I’m craving authentic Thai chicken rice. Highly recommend checking this place out if you’re in the area!
