At the same time, patient feedback suggests that the experience can vary depending on the day and the situation. One of the most common concerns is wait time. Some patients report arriving early or on time but still waiting 15 to 40 minutes past their appointment before seeing a doctor. Others mention difficulty getting same-day access or frustration when appointment requests, including screening-related care, did not move forward as expected. These comments matter because they help set realistic expectations: this is a busy neighborhood clinic that appears to serve a high volume of patients, and timing may not always run exactly on schedule.

Another theme in reviews is that professionalism and communication may feel inconsistent for some visitors. While many people speak positively about the care they received, a few reviews describe doctors as dismissive or note confusion around prescriptions and front-desk follow-up. For new patients considering a medical clinic in San Francisco, CA, it may be helpful to arrive with clear questions, allow extra time for the visit, and confirm important details such as referrals, screening requests, or prescription status before leaving.

Overall, North East Medical Services (NEMS) - 1520 Stockton Clinic is best understood as a longstanding community clinic with convenient hours, a central San Francisco location, and a meaningful role for many local patients. I question their professionalism sometimes. I’ve gone to this location for years now. I always arrive to my appointments early, if not on time. However, I never see the doctor by my appointment time. It’s usually 15 minutes after my appointment time, and sometimes 30. I have waited 40 minutes once, and arrived late to my workplace. The doctor never once comes in to excuse themselves or apologize for their tardiness. But today, I arrive 15-20 minutes late due to weather conditions and traffic, and I come apologizing. Both the receptionist and doctor give me an attitude. The doctor even gives me a 3-minute speech about tardiness, like how a parent would treat/lecture their child. I always put myself in others shoes whenever I can, and I did it at the time, but I just feel like that was unnecessary. I didn’t plan to go to the doctor’s office leaving worse than I arrived. I’ve been planning on switching to a different network for a while, and I think this time I will. Every time I’m sick, I can rarely get an appointment right away, not even within the same month. I always need to wait till the next month. By that time, I won’t even be sick anymore!!!

Our son’s assigned doctor is at this clinic. We called earlier and were told there were no available appointments in the afternoon. We decided to stop by after school — it was during regular business hours, the on-call doctor was there, and there were no other patients waiting — yet they still refused to see our child. This was especially concerning because it involved a sick child. That night, he developed a fever, cough, and sore throat, and we had to take him to the emergency room the next day. It’s very disappointing and unacceptable that a pediatric clinic would turn away a child in need of care.

Clean facilities and most people are friendly but some of the doctors are dismissive, and trying to make an appointment for cancer screening has gone unanswered (I've been smoking from age 15 to age 45 with some gaps in between). You'd think someone would take that more seriously but they clearly don't care about their patients at all. It's just too big of a place with too many people. I'm going to have to find a smaller doctor's office.
