Old Street Chengpan Malatang 老街称盘麻辣烫 is a flavorful Chinese Restaurant in Fremont, CA, serving malatang and spicy boil dishes from its location at 6080 Stevenson Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538. For diners searching the Bay Area for a customizable, warming bowl with bold broth, generous meats, vegetables, and skewers, this local spot offers a focused experience built around the comforting heat of Sichuan-style mala. With a 4.7-star rating across 282 reviews, it has become a reliable choice for people who want authentic spice, big portions, and a casual meal that feels both lively and satisfying.
The restaurant's name and interior lean into an old street mood, and guests frequently mention the unique Chinese decor, spacious dining area, and small details such as distinctive mugs that make the meal feel memorable. The setting is relaxed enough for a quick lunch, but roomy enough for groups who want to linger over shared appetizers and custom bowls. If you enjoy a dining room with personality rather than a plain takeout counter, the atmosphere here adds a sense of place without distracting from the food.
Malatang is the centerpiece: diners can build a bowl with plenty of meat and vegetables, then adjust the flavor with the sauce station. Reviews consistently point to the spicy broth as authentic, tasty, and genuinely hot, so this is a strong match for spice lovers who appreciate deep, numbing heat. Customers also call out the large portions, especially when adding meat skewers or small sausages, making the meal feel hearty and customizable. Because some orders can add up depending on appetizers and extras, it is a good idea to choose add-ons with your appetite in mind.
Beyond the signature malatang, regulars recommend the spicy boil dishes, deep fried pork, skewers, brown sugar rice cakes, fried rice cake, sesame balls, and other small snacks. These sides are especially useful if you are dining with someone who wants variety or a gentler break from the spice. The brown sugar rice cakes are a repeated favorite in reviews, adding a chewy, sweet contrast to the savory mala flavors. Staff are also described as attentive, which helps first-time guests navigate choices and enjoy the build-your-own style without feeling rushed.
For local diners in Fremont and nearby Bay Area communities, Old Street Chengpan Malatang 老街称盘麻辣烫 works well for casual lunches, spice-focused meetups, and comfort-food cravings when a standard noodle or hot pot meal will not quite do. Current listed hours show the restaurant closed on Monday and open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM, so it is best to plan around the lunch window. If you are looking for a Chinese Restaurant in Fremont, California with authentic malatang, bold broth, customizable sauces, and an old-street-inspired setting, this spot is worth considering.

Sign in to reviewWe love this place! We’ve been here a few times, and the food never disappoints us. The restaurant is very spacious with a large variety of food. The flavor is very authentic. Malatang tastes great and comes with plenty of meat and veggies. I highly recommend the brown sugar rice cakes.
This is my favorite Malatang place in Bay Area! The spicy dish is so authentic and tasty~! VERY BIG PORTION and fair price. The spicy boil dishes are very good, don't forget to try. We order the deep fried pork every time. The little sausages are so special, highly recommend to add on. $1.99 Brown sugar jelly cup is nice dessert at the end.
Food was good, but spicy! We loved the small snacks such as fried rice cake and sesame balls. Price is on the steeper side as I didn’t expect to pay $78 (dinner for two, tax and tip included) for Malatang. To be fair, this is not your typical cost-by-weight type of malatang, and their appetizer portion is quite big for the price. Overall, enjoyed our experience there.
Ambiance - 5/5 Great experience wit unique decor, the dining area gives off the old street vibes for sure. When you walked in, immediately you are greeted with this nice Chinese decoration. Even their mugs are unique and give the old street vibes. Food - 5/5 we ordered some skewers, malatang and tomato beef brisket noodle soup. I said their malatang is the best and the highlight here. We ordered the mild spicy Cheng Du soup base that comes with less soup and serve on a big platter. The broth is clean yet super flavorful, tasty with a good strong hint of spice. The heat level was just nice for us as we get to enjoy the broth without the numbing/burning hot effect. Their fried tofu and quail eggs skewers are seasoned just nice and only complained is the portion is small as I was expecting more than 3pieces of tofu per skewers. But then again these are not the normal cold tofu (it's the better grade, chewy version). We ended with their rice cake. It's so good and addictive. I couldn't stop eating and have to hold myself back to save the last piece for my family. It's crunchy on the outside but super light and airy inside (unlike most other rice cakes which are usually fairly dense) And very soft and chewy. Service - 5/5 Very good, observant and attentive. They provided us with extra napkins without us having to ask for more. I will for sure come back again.
I got a the custom malatang with 8 meat skewers for a total of $60 (tax + tip). Great value for money and solid taste. They got a build your own sauce station and the staff are very attentive
