Customer favorites mentioned in reviews include pho, bò kho with glass noodles, wonton soup, nêm chua spring rolls, grilled chicken with rice and salad, and jasmine iced tea. For a warm, savory meal, reviewers call out the bò kho broth and the choice of basil and bean sprouts to add. Other diners have enjoyed wonton soup and grilled chicken served with rice and salad, describing their meal as fresh, flavorful, and inexpensive. Spring rolls are another option mentioned by guests, though feedback is mixed: some praise them, while one takeout review found the shrimp rolls underfilled and the rice paper tough. That contrast is useful context when deciding what to order. Rather than promising every dish will suit every palate, Phở Tầu Bay offers a variety of familiar Vietnamese dishes for guests to explore.
Comments about service are often positive, with diners describing staff as polite and helpful. One reviewer said a server who helped their group was an owner, and another visitor from out of town remembered the friendly service as well as the food. The dining area has outlets around the seating area, a practical detail noted by a customer. The reviews suggest a straightforward place to sit down for a casual meal or pick up food to go; they do not establish a particular decor or formal dining style. Guests looking for Vietnamese flavors beyond the usual tourist-restaurant choices may find dishes here worth considering.

Bo kho with glass noodles was delicious, lots of basil and bean sprouts to add, broth was fantastic; the Vietnamese coffee is one of the best I’ve ever had, strong, not too sweet; staff were very polite and helpful; outlets are available around the dining area
Looking for good healthy yet flavorful food in NOLA? Try this gem. We had a shared dinner of nime chow, wonton soup and grilled chicken rice and salad plate, and jasmine iced tea. Flavorful, fresh and inexpensive. Gave our thanks to our server, who turned out to be an owner, and we had a nice conversation learning about her family's story and the restaurant's history. Not NOLA fancy fare, but healthy and delightful dining.

From out of town and this was the best food and friendliest service of the whole trip. Everything was delicious, the spring rolls were phenomenal! Definitely recommend it for something outside of the tourists trap restaurants and hope to make it back before leaving
