Its 4.4-star rating across 764 reviews reflects many diners’ experiences, while individual visits can vary. If you are looking for Vietnamese food in Portland, Pho Van Fresh offers familiar pho alongside other dishes that reviewers say are worth exploring.
Pho is a central draw: customers describe the broths as savory and satisfying, and some say it is a favorite stop when dining downtown. The menu also has dishes beyond noodle soup, including pork with crispy rolls and noodles, chicken wings, beef salad, a tofu rice bowl, and duck confit bao buns, as mentioned in customer reviews. Reviewers call the beef salad refreshing, noting crisp vegetables and a vinegar-style dressing. Others praise the wings’ fish-sauce coating and the bao buns, while one diner singled out basil tofu. These comments offer a useful snapshot of the range diners have enjoyed, without promising that every dish will suit every palate.
The restaurant’s setting is another part of the experience. One customer describes its corner location as bringing in plenty of natural light and offering a chance to people-watch while eating. That makes Pho Van Fresh a possible choice for a relaxed downtown meal, whether you are stopping in with friends or taking a break during the day. Some reviewers have also ordered food to go, so it may suit diners who would rather enjoy their meal elsewhere. For dishes with herbs and vegetables, such as the reviewed pork and crispy rolls with noodles, customers have noted fresh, seasonal accompaniments.
Experiences are not uniform: while many reviews describe friendly service and enjoyable, fresh food, one takeout customer reported problems with a pho order, including missing tendon and concerns about how the noodles and meat were prepared. If you have a specific preparation preference or are ordering delivery, confirming details with the restaurant may help set expectations. For an in-person visit, its downtown Portland address and reported bright corner setting are practical details to keep in mind. Overall, Pho Van Fresh in Portland, OR is a Vietnamese restaurant to consider for savory pho, flavorful wings, beef salad, bao buns, and other dishes highlighted by local diners. Check the current hours before visiting, especially on Sunday, when the listed schedule is closed.

Pho Van Delicious 😋 Spicy Wings had a fish sauce coating that was mega-grubb. Beef salad was refreshing, vinegar type sauce over crisp veggies. Duck confit bao buns were magic. Didn't get a pic of the Basil Tofu, but it was noteworthy. The tofu itself was better than normal tofu in that it seemed like they made it in house or something. It was almost like a mix of tofu and tempeh. Each dish was amazing on its own and completely different flavor profiles from each other. Sometimes everything sort of tastes the same at places, not at all the case here.
Every time we go eat downtown this is our favorite place to eat. The staff is always friendly and the food is always delicious. The restaurant is on the corner of the lot which provides lots of natural light and a chance to do some people watching while you eat. The phos are very savory and perfect for a cold afternoon to warm the belly and satisfy the taste buds. Definitely a don't miss.
Don’t get the positive reviews. Ordered door dash. Paid for extra tendon. Received overcooked tough round steak in broth (no tendon) and piping hot congealed gelatinous noodles on the side. Anyone who knows pho - meat should be rare, served on the side. Noodles COLD and in bowl, broth on the side. Will not order from here again. Not edible. Thankfully Door Dash made it right.
Yuuuum! We had the chicken wings, duck confit bao buns, steak salad and tofu rice bowl. Everything was great but the steak salad was to die for!!! I will be dreaming about it. Got it togo but would've been cool to eat there.
Been here a few times and it's always been good and fresh. I've had the #11 Pork and Crispy Rolls with noodles and it was very good with very seasonal herbs and veggies and the Đồ Chua is not the normal carrots and daikon with the most recent being a sweet gingery cabbage which I've had before at a different restaurant that did serve it as kimchi; it was delicious. The crispy rolls were super good and they have a lot of different rolls which look really tempting especially if you are in the mood for small plates and cocktails. My husband also has tried the Hoisin Pork Ribs which were outstanding, and we've also shared the Green papaya salad. My husband also had the Thai tea, but they suggested having it without the chia seeds and having it with coconut milk (he usually gets thai tea with lots of fresh limes), which he thought was delicious.
